This compares well with others I've tasted in the category. The color is a clear gold with a white head that lasted long enough for me to finish the glass, which wasn't long because it tasted so good. The flavor was nicely malted with caramel and honey notes which clung to the palate briefly and went down very smooth with not much aftertaste. Not a trace of an any off flavors. This beer was quite drinkable and immediately wanted another.

Had this on tap for lunch, and I must say I was a little disappointed. It came out a dull orangish brown, no trace of head at all. Nose is a very nice strong banana with hints of wheat, cloves and some other spices. The taste is where it went wrong---an unpleasant bandaid like phenolic flavor absolutely dominates, the banana tinted wheat malt that lurks in the background is just drowned out. Reading the other reviews, it seems like I may have been served an off batch, so I'm willing to give this another try, but the beer I was served was no winner.

Served on tap in a pint glass.

Appearance: Cloudy orange brown with a smallish white head.

Smell: Strong banana and cloves with caramel and wheat aromas.

Taste: Sweet and fruity wheat malts with wackloads of clove and banana flavors.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a slightly buttery feel on the finish.

Drinkability: Overall, not bad. Maybe a bit too sweet, but not cloying. Comparable, but not as good, as Moonglow.

The beer came out holding much promise. It was a cloudy light gold with a nice white head. Then came the aroma, they had promised banana and boy did they deliver as it dominated with a light malt smell in the background. The taste was biting with an overwhelming flavor of banana accompanied by an alcohol burn. The feel was creamy and dry. With a name like Illuminator I was anticipating something along the lines of Aventinus or Optimator, what I got was something quite hard to drink. The only nice thing about this beer, other than its appearance, was you had to drink it so fast it gave an alcohol kick.
