This is the second time I have been to Murphy's, both times in close proximity to a Cubs game, so take that into consideration. Visited last week with my family during a Chicago vacation before the Cubs and Mets.

I forgot how big it was, and it was still pretty crowded an hour before the game. The tap selection looked pretty solid. We went with local brewers Two Brothers and later had an Old Style out on the patio before heading for the stadium. Incredibly convenient pub for Cubs games, and the selection is solid enough and quite good for the area. If I lived here i might find reasons to come here randomly.

My review of Murphy's Bleachers is soley based on a few game-day visits, so take that into account if you are interested. I personally enjoy a trip to Wrigley for a game, because the game-day atmosphere is very enjoyable. Murphy's isn't a very large place, but it is a bit deceptive. There are many seats outside, and several different bar areas inside. Memoribilia adorns the entire place, which adds to the atmosphere for the day. Usually feels like a good vibe to me.

Drafts on game day are unfortunately served in plastic cubs, but I can overlook that for a chance to sit right next to the stadium and have a good beer before going to the game. I would add that after several visits, I have not had an off beer. Service is about what you would expect when it is packed, however my most recent trip seemed to have a friendlier feel to it.

Selection is very nice. Seemed to be about 15 taps to choose from, and several cans/bottles of craft. Highlights from my recent trip included 3Floyd's Pride and Joy, Lagunitas IPA, Great Lakes Dortmunder, and 2 Bros. Cane and Ebel. Several other good choices, though note you will pay a high price for higher gravity.

Ballpark food is what is served on game days. Polish sausage, burgers, dogs, and grilled chicken sandwiches seem to be popular choices. I have had the burgers and chicken, and were worth the price. A bit pricy, but many things in Chicago are that way. I would recommend getting here several hours before game time, if you want to be able to look around, and most improtantly, move around.

Stopped here last night with BAs acme, Botham, and EehaiCJ...charting the few wrigleyville beerfly establishments during the off season. This is a big place, designed to accommodate overflow crowds after baseball games. It goes far back, worth a long bar on the right side, and another in the back. Exposed brick and wood beams, even a fireplace that wasn't operating. We grabbed a table near the Ms. PacMan/Galaga arcade game. Goose Mild Winter was the monthly beer special for $3, or $9 a outrageously good deal. Other craft pitchers were similarly affordable. Tap highlights were Obamagang, Brooklyn Savoir Faire, Hennepin, Maredsous 8, Bourbon County, Pride & Joy, and 2 Bros. Heavy Handed IPA. The other taps were mostly macro and common imports. Bottle list was roughly 50% craft, focused on US beers and Belgian imports (Atomium, DT, Duvel, Leffe), with a few German (Hofbrau. Celebrator, Erdinger). There was a $5 Italian beef special, which turned out to be almost a foot long. It was pretty tasty, served with au jus and hot peppers on the side.

The crowd seemed to be mostly groups, when we walked in the whole bar practically turned around. Some older folks, and even a family or two in for dinner. Table service was quick and friendly, our server knew which beers were new, and described Obamagang to us. Overall not a bad stop near Wrigley if you find yourself in the area, looking for cheap craft options.
