The appearance of the beer was murky, reddish brown, and mostly still. There was very little head after the pour. The aroma was sour with notes of green apple and malt vinegar. The taste was tart, and reminded me mostly of apple cider. There were woody and smoky note that showed up in the finish. The feel was very light, and there was zero evidence of the double digit ABV. This was surprisingly refreshing and very drinkable.

Tastes like a black currant champagne. I was expecting something more robust, but discovered a sparkling cider instead. Too sour for my tastes, and too much wine for my desires.

Poured from a bomber into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Hazed burgundy/maroon pour with 2 fingers of pink-tinged fizzy head. Modest ring of lacing.

S: Funky... tart apple cider vinegar, fruit, and oak.

T.F: Tart without a massive pucker... sticky fruit and jam. Some apple cider vinegar... berry/currant, white wine, and oak. Complex... some fruit sweetness creeps through. A little yeast from the tripel base but not strong. hides its ABV super well. Medium bodied... complex, tart, and fruity to finish.

O: An awesome wild ale. Using the tripel as a base worked way better than I expected and the white wine barrel softens it all nicely while adding some great character. Funky and complex... Anderson Valley hit this one out of the park.

Anderson Valley Brewing Co. "Thribble Currant"
$8/.25l glass on tap @ BRÜ Craft & Wurst on 9 July 2018
(Listed at 10.4% abv)

Look: Hazy deep ruby body beneath a creamy off-white head with a touch of pink to it. Average head retention and limited lacing are perfectly acceptable for a sour ale.
Smell: Fruity, "tart", red berry, oak, vinous, acidic, mineralish.
Taste: As the aroma indicates it will be. Quite sour. Very fruity with clear notes of currant, dark fruits, and red berries. Some oak. A little metallic with acidity, but overall very clean for a sour beer. Dry, acidic-but-smooth finish with a light touch of fruitiness remaining.
Feel: Medium bodied and gently crisp with most of the "bite" coming from acidity.
Overall: A beautiful, really well done sour ale slash fruit beer. I could not have hoped for anything better. Stunning, really. If the U.S. can keep producing wild ales of this quality and depth Belgium will soon lose its place at the top of the sour beer game. Highly recommended and well worth seeking out!

Tate’s of currants and wild yeasts. Even truffles and oak. Solid sour wild American ale. Smells of earthiness and soil. Great overall beer - phenomenal depth.
