Rating based upon draft sample, also had a bottle that showed significant infection and was a terrible drain pour.

On a nitro tap.
Appearance is a dark brown with golden edges with little head for a nitro pour. The nose is very mild.
The body is quite thin and the flavor profile is dominated by an oddly sour note. The bourbon is non-existent.

Pours an inky black color, around 50 SRM, with a khaki colored head that dissipates quickly for an English porter. There is visible lacing around he glass but its quite broken up and chunky, not very characteristic of what the style represents. It smells of sour milk, vanilla bean, sweet malts. Flavor is sour, vanilla bean, dark chocolate. The alcohol is masked by the sourness. I think something went wrong with this vintage. It's possible the barrels that they aged this brew in were compromised, as there should not be a sour flavor in a bourbon barrel aged English Porter. I've seen this happen with other barrel aged beers, but never to a barrel aged porter. I'll definitely try this brew again next year and perhaps a few others as I have heard good things about Shawnee, but this brew was just awful...$24 and I struggled through it the entire time.

You can visit bars that have it on tap and its delicous but get it bottled and its just good beer. Nitro changes the taste all day long. I recommend it to anyone who likes bourbon beers.
