I disagree with the other 6 reviewers here. i had read their reviews and decided to stay away from this IPA since i know mishawaka brewing is hit or miss and i really like IPAs. Someone ordered a pitcher at our table though so i filled my glass. Nice orangey amber color with foamy head. floral aroma with some citrus present. Hoppy taste works for a good IPA flavor. i think i taste cascade hops but im not sure. some maltiness as well. fine drinkability...i could drink these all night.

22oz bottle poured into a pint glass. No best by, brewed on, or bottled on date.

A- Poured an lightish hazy orange with a vigorous pour resulting in a finger worth of white head. Head dissipated into a thin covering. Moderate lacing on the glass.

S- I was befuddled by what I was smelling. There wasn't a hop presents at the beginning but a ever so faint citrus smell came through towards the end. It was almost like a fresh orange had been chopped up two rooms away. A heavy burnt multigrain bread smell persisted throughout. By no means offensive smelling: couldn't figure out what I was smelling till the end of the drink.

T- Malt forward. The multigrain smell is tasted at the front. The end has a hint of bitterness. Absolutely no lingering tastes. Tasted better than the smell lead me to believe.

M- Medium body with moderate carbonation. Nothing crazy happens to the palate, nor anything at all. Extremely easy drinker.

O- It is an easy drinker. Not much flavor, but nothing that makes it hard to drink. It is a beer that I will give to my BMC drinking friends as a possible gateway. I could drink a couple of these without problem, but not one that I will seek on a weekly basis.

Pours a cludy orange/copper with nice white head and very good lacing the whole way down.

The smell is of floral cirtus and....cheese?

The taste is bitter on the forefront with mango on the back. Not much malt to be seen.

I must say I rather enjoyed this beer. Wouldnt go out of my way for it but fairly solid.

A - Light Amber, carbonation bubbles are susspended in the glass.
S - Smells hoppy yet not too strong
T - Not so hoppy IPA, still hoppy but not so damn hoppy you can't stand to drink it.
M - Thick
D - In my opionion IPA's are not a beer to drink more than 3 of. They are heavy sitting and not very drinkable

Poured a syrupy deep amber, not so much of a head. Excited to get this as an extra, but not really my kind of IPA. The nose was dominated by a malty-booze, coupled with the syrupy mouthfeel just wasn't my jam, almost thick in a way. Got to take my review with a grain of salt, i'm completeley swayed by the west coast IPA, and it ruins me on other IPA's, i tried to rate with that in mind.

Thanks to Lucas for this one. Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a Sam Adams perfect pint.

A: Vigorous pour barely yields a .5 finger coarse white head that dissipates quickly into a thin layer of film. Beer is a mostly-clear orange. Lacing is spotty and near non-existant.

S: Nose is sweet apricot, a slight bit of brown sugar, and cane sugar. Very subtle, appropriately sweet, but fresh hop character is noticeably missing.

T: Opens uncharacteristically sweet. Brown sugar, caramel, and all the slightly subtle barleywine flavors that I'm not supposed to get in an IPA. No hop and no citrus. Slightly spicy towards the middle with a unpleasant medicinal quality. Finish is overly messy with the hop bitterness finally all coming in, in one fell swoop that lingers aggressively on the palate. Overly bitter with no citrus to balance it out.

M: Light to medium bodied, carbonated, but not overly coarse. Actually one of the smoother IPAs with a dulled down, unlively body. Finish kills me here with an overly bitter, not hop bitter mind you, aftertaste that is very messy and lingers on and on.

D: Pass on this one. I can deal with a nose and taste that is uncharacteristic of an IPA... after all, that's what innovation is all about isn't it? However, the finish and subsequent aftertaste brings me back to when I was 3 and I didn't know how to swallow cold medication so I decided to chew it instead. Unbearably bitter...

Another new Midwest offering for me and a nice session able style taboot! This one was served cold and poured into a pint glass and enjoyed on 02/13/2010.

The pour was pretty good, a solid look for an IPA. Dark amber in color and very clear. A nice solid head of white rose up from the top of the glass and settled down with ease. Rich lacing coating the sides and the bottom of the glass as it went down. Aroma was light and not as strong as I would have hoped, but as it warmed became stronger and even more pronounced. Well balanced with a biscuity malt and a rich citrus hop note that seemed to balance themselves quite nicely. Started off slow again as I took the first sip. A touch to malty at first, but again it seemed to grow on me as the session went on. Nice buttery flavors, hints of citrus and al light, but dry finish seemed to cap it off pretty well.

Overall a decent IPA. Better then average but won't stand out in a crowd. Still would try it again one day though.

12 oz bottle

Hazed lemon orange color with a thin bubbly off white head that nearly immediately fades to a thin film with some specks of lacing. Mild aroma with citrus hops, grain and caramel. Fairly sweet, but not overpowering, very pleasant in general. Medium bodied, minimal carbonation, lingering bitterness from citrus hops and graininess. Flavor is similar blend of citrus hops, caramel and grain, but leaning more sweet than I prefer. Overall, nicely balanced, nothing exceptional, would be a nice sessionable IPA if available near me.

Had on tap at the Pub.

A- Came to me a semi hazy golden orange color. Little tiny head on this that went away almost as soon as it hit my coaster. Some soapy lacing left on the sides of the glass with little actually sticking.

S- Faint citrus hops smell upfront which wasn't a bad thing I actually enjoyed a not so strong nose for once in a beer. Picked up some sweeter malty undertones but for the most part a lot of hops and more hops.

T- Light bitter hop upfront with this beer. Middle of the beer seemed a little sweet from the malts I'm guessing. The tail end of this beer made up for the light bitter front with a good strong citrus hop ending. Nothing over the top at all with beer. Almost perfectly balanced.

M- Medium mouthfeel. This beer sat a little heavy in the mouth but with good carbonation it sprung it to life again. Left a faint hop oil on the tounge which really made you want to take another sip. I liked it personally. Good clean finish to this beer.

D- This isn't the most over the top or under the radar IPA. It's a nice go to beer when you get burned out on the big hop bombs. I always have a 22oz bottle of this at home just in case I have those days...which is far and few to be honest.

Appearance: Orange/yellow body, very slightly hazy, with a half-finger white head.

Smell: Crisp dry hops up front, slightly citrusy grapefruit base. Pretty decent.

Taste: Dry hops on the tip of the tongue, a touch of citrus on the backend, and a cloying dryness to the finish. I've tried letting it warm a bit, but there's just not a lot of complexity here. It's pretty decent, but not great.

Mouthfeel: Thin mouthfeel with a high hop content and large amount of carbonation.

Drinkability: I like it okay, but with so many other great IPAs out there, it just doesn't stand out much.

A- An ever so slightly hazy light golden color. The head is modest in size, but has pretty good retention. There are no streams of carbonation.

S- Smells kind of sweet and carmely, but there are some sour notes in there as well. A little bit of honey and vanilla are picked up as well, but this smells a little weak for the style.

T- Same as the aroma. Sadly, it's a little boring... with just a smack of bitterness.

M- Not bad. Just a bit on the dry side.

D- Well, this is just not my thing I guess. In a country full of IPA's, this one does not really stand out in the slightest.

Pours a fizzy, slightly hazy golden orange, with a huge white head that lasts a very long time.

Smell is huge hops, a little sweat sock-y, maybe slightly old, but quite enjoyable.

Taste is just like the smell, hugely bitter with a sweet, buttery quality. A little different, but good.

Mouthfeel is very good, thick and resiny to help out the hops.

Drinkability isn't bad, but the bitterness is definitely there.

Overall, I wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised.

Lighter than average orange color with good clarity, good lacing, and a light head that disappears quickly.

Very full smell, resiny, sweet, and citrusy. A little cloying but still a good smell.

Sweet and citrusy flavor with bubblegum. Not enough malt to balance the hops. Lighter than medium body with an oily slickness.

An interesting IPA but probably not one I'll seek out again.

Tasted on 8/1/08.

Pours a hazy orange-ish/ copper color, with an off white head. In the aroma, small hops and a caramel note. In the taste, small hops and a caramel malt. A small bitter and a medium mouthfeel, with a sticky sweet caramel aftertaste. Quite sweet and small hop presence, maybe a pale ale, but I don't think I would call it a IPA.

12oz to tulip glass, pours a nice orangey hazy peach shade, cream colored head fades

smells... WEIRD! i've never smelled a beer like this, i have no idea what they blended, maybe heavy on the malts, comes off offensive smelling, vomit? meat casserole? not sure, but not a winner in the nose for an ipa - i dont really dislike the scent, i'm just completely taken aback by it.

taste is kinda heavy for an ipa, astringent bitter hops linger on, heavy malts, biscuity, caramel, citrus peel, good carbonation, grassy, pine, not bad

mouthfeel is of a good weight, hop resins stick around in your mouth and leave a dry finish, not bad!

Update review, only because I was so mad about some stuff (appearance)

The Indiana Pale Ale. This beer better be good considering it has my homestate's namesake.

It pours out to a beautiful radiant orange. However, it has a huge, uncontrolled head that looks like an orange soda float. And huge black particles in the beer. Definately terrible. The last bottle I had of this, these problems were not there. Now, I have a completely different feel for the beer.

Scents are good. Flavor is good. Feel is good. I just can't get over the appearance, I wish I could reco. this beer but just can't.

Poured from the bottle a hazy yellow gold with a foamy white head.

Sweet, heavy aroma of malts, brown sugar, butterscotch, and light hops.

The taste is heavy on the malt side with just a subtle hint of hops. Aftertaste of brown sugar, butter, and a lingering bitterness.

Light bodied and moderately carbonated.

I would have like to have had a bit more hop presence in this one. The balance heavily skewed to the the malty side.
