Formerly Menabrea 150° Anniversario Lager
Menabrea Bionda Lager is a classic lager beer produced using Menabrea’s own yeast, which has a bottom-fermenting tendency. Menabrea uses pure mountain water sourced high in the Alps, close to Biella. The water combines with selected barley malt and maize (corn) before adding Hallertau Magnum hops.
The addition of maize gives a lightness to the beer both in terms of color and taste and also adds a hint of sweetness, which balances the bitterness from the Hallertau hops. The combination of these ingredients brewed by the master brewer to a recipe basically unchanged since 1846 gives a beer with balanced bitterness, a floral fruity nose and a delicate pale-golden color.
This lager, like all of the Menabrea beers is matured peacefully in their underground cellars for 6 weeks. This beer has been matured in the brewery’s deep, cold cellars the same way for over 170 years.

Pour pale, fizzy and clear gold color. Good head little retention and lacing. There's a sweet hint of corn in the aroma with some malt. Taste of grains and light caramel even Medium carbonation and bitterness with a good mouthfeel. This beer is what it is as an American lager. I don't want to say it's simple because it isn't there's some funkiness going on here. Good tasting. Pairs great with pizza.

an italian corn lager, now i have seen it all! this is the lighter of the two beers ive had from these guys in my life, in some ways a simple blonde lager, in some ways full of complexity, its easy drinking but it definitely stands out from the crowd, and not least because of the corn, different for sure, a neat find at a heady italian joint in walla walla, i love when a beer program at a place like this gets the thought that the wine does, and i was stoked to see this. the pour is golden and frothy headed, clear and sparkling, elegant looking even in a chunky glass. the nose is sweet like honey, cooked sugar, subtle green tea and dried apricot or golden raisin type fruitiness to me, and the bready lager yeast which really defines this. the flavor follows, sweet from the corn through the front end, cleaner in the second stage, minerals abound, and its freshness is surprisingly evident as well. i like the subtle complexity, and i think the corn does add something cool to this. great carbonation, flavorful and timeless lager yeast, well conditioned, and perhaps slightly more substantial than a lot of its peers. a great food beer too, which is maybe the point, its not easily overwhelmed but it also is not overly assertive, the right balance for some wonderful italian food where we had it. a cool drinking experience!

I liked it with Italian food. I will buy it and see if I like it on its own.

Poured from a 660ml bottle .
Pours a yellow straw colour, small white head almost disapearing quickly leaving an small island of foam and a thin ring. The smell is distant , vague grass and pine . The taste is mush better than the smell might suggest ,grassy and mild hops bring a refreshing bitterness. The mouthfeel is good , not too watery or heavy and very carbonated.
Overall, a very uncomplicated lager , no huge depth but that no bad thing , this is refreshing and tasty . The beer moretti and peroni want to be .

11.2oz bottle. Poured out a clear, straw-yellow color with a small, white head of bubbly foam. It left minimal lace on the glass. It smelled of caramel, grains, toffee and floral notes. Sweet caramel and toffee taste with a very mild, grassy bitterness.
