Poured into a Celebrator pokal. Pours a dark coppery amber with a fine one finger light tan head with great retention and lacing. Aroma dominated by sweet caramel malt. Flavor is also sweet bready and caramel malt and mild dark dried fruit, finishing with residual malt and a decent hop kick, but with an unfortunate slighty metallic component. Medium bodied with some creaminess. Starts out well, but the metallic bitter finish is disconcerting. A decent, but unbalanced doppelbock.

Bought a 1 PINT, 9.4 FL. OZ. bottle of this from the Wine & Cheese Place in Clayton, MO for $9.99. Poured from the White/Maroon/Gold labeled bottle w/ so much branding it was tough to figure out the brewery into my 12oz Surly Darkness Glass. Has BEST BEFORE END: 09.09.12 on the back label.
Aroma- Strong malts take over this entire aroma! Has the slightest bit of caramel note in here but very subtle. Some type of kettle cooked aroma too? Good overall.
Appearance- Pours a .5 finger, bubbly head that dies fairly quick. Has a pure copper colored body with a slight hazing body. Leaves a few bubbles of lace behind.
Flavor- Caramel bomb plus sugary malts! Awesome. Very rich and malty with a medium alcohol presence. Light bitterness at the finish.
Mouthfeel- Light-Medium Bodied, Medium Carbonation, Overly Slick, and tons of sweetness on the finish.
Overall Impression- This one would have been a PERFECT doppelbock if the freshness date was still in order... Will be looking to get a fresher bottle of this soon enough. Only affected the Appearance/Mouthfeel and very lucky! Recommend enjoying this one. Very sweet and great character.
