Style: English India Pale Ale (IPA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.20%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
McAuslan presents its New World take on the classic IPAs of the 19th-century England. In those days, the beers was brewed extra-strong and generously hopped to help it survive the long journey to India. Inspired by that history and today’s blod American IPAs, we’ve married Cascade and Chinook hops with a subtle blend of malts -anyone who appreciates strong ale will love it. Hop bitterness and malt smoothness: it’s a journey your taste buds will enjoy time and again.

Wow, I was waiting on this one! Finally got a bottle...

Copper color. Slightly veiled. Nice white foamy and creamy head. Wow when pouring the beer the hops aroma hits you nicely. Hoppy and caramel malts in the nose. Well balanced. Delightful. Citrus hops note in the nose. Some grapefruits in the nose... very light.

On the taste, fruity. The bitterness is light. For some, it might be bad... but I think it is very good. Different. Caramel malts are dominating. Delicious. Easy to drink. Refreshing. A nice beer from McAuslan.

Very good, must have when in town. Floral, some citrus in the hops, with alcohol bringing a neat texture to the beer. Amber body and lacing white head to capitalize on the beer.

Standard 341ml bottle...

A - Looks similar to a typical American IPA; light amber in colour, slightly hazy, the head is nice and fluffy and its retention is quite good.

S - Very fruity nose. Apple, peach, maybe pear or plum, and some ripe oranges. Also malty, with hints of toffee and bread. To some extent it smells similar to an English IPA or an ESB.

T - Starts out very juicy and fruity, with lots of orange, peach, and apple notes. Then you get that smooth bready sweetness, thanks to the crystal malts. Bitterness can be felt throughout, but it is particularly noticeable in the after-taste, blending well with lingering fruitiness. I was impressed by the intenseness of the aromatic hop profile of this beer and by the lovely balance between fruity, bitter and sweet.

M - Lighter-than-medium body to the beer. Medium level of carbonation. I could also feel the hop oils on the palate. Virtually no taste of alcohol. Fairly strong bitterness.

O - I'm loving what the folks at McAuslan have done with the style. It's not an American IPA, yet it isn't quite an English IPA either! Strong on the aromatic side, not too intense on the bitter side. I hope this sticks around the few shops it's sold at! I'm getting myself another 4-pack!

This beer had a nice hop presence and the malt was certainly there but what surprised me was the nose and taste of fruit - cherry maybe.

Excellent beer! Aroma of the hops explodes on the nose. Very pleasant, with an almost floral like fragrance. Slight haze, but to be expected for an IPA. Slight sweet flavour, but leaves the tounge dry. Very dry. Bitterness comes through in the finish, but does not taste as bitter as the 56 IBU on the can and is not harsh like some other examples of this style. Bitterness disappeared quickly. I found this to be an easy drinking IPA. Very nice lacing on the glass from first gulp to the last. Top class example of this style.
