Poured from a 500ml bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a golden hue with about 1 finger of foamy head. Foam dissipates to a thin layer quickly.

Smells sugary with a hint of burnt malt on the nose.

Sweet flavor with a strong burnt/charred food after taste. Some slight hint of skunking, but barely detectable.

Very thin body. Feels low on carbonation.

High C+ (3.23) / ABOVE AVERAGE

***
2nd impressions from a can in Podgorica (02.11.16):

Above average quality Euro pale lager for the price with a clean barley/pilsner malt backbone and an apt light body. Not unrefreshing. Hop presence is minimal (to style), though some more Noble hop grassiness would fit right in. I find none of the usual suspects in terms of off-flavours - no metallic character, buttery diacetyl, vegetables, etc. It's balanced albeit wanting in terms of complexity and subtlety. It's a very plain beer, which is to say it's not only simple but it's rudimentary.

True to form, this is meant to be highly drinkable - but that comes as it so often does at the expense of depth of flavour; this is a very neutral inoffensive brew that takes no risks lest it turn off casual drinkers (their bread 'n' butter demographic). Montenegro's entry in the ubiquitous pale lager category is better than that of most country's, but this is still quite lackluster fare.

Probably its biggest flaw is its overcarbonation, which borders on sharp and/or biting, detracting from the otherwise run-of-the-mill presence on the palate.

When in Montenegro and craving a svetlo lager, I'd contend that Hungarian and Slovenian imports are your best bet. This isn't a brew I intend to return to, but I'm impressed they can brew it on the scale they do whilst keeping the product consistent. There's some serious brewing talent at Trebjesa; hopefully some of the staff leaves to open more ambitious enterprises.

Smooth and drinkable, not overly malty like some of the north American macro brews., Pale golden, aroma and taste is grains, nothing special in appearance, but pretty flavorful. One of the better second world lagers I’ve had.

500ml bottle from Billa supermarket, Zagreb (6.99 kuna):
After a terrible start (awful looking & not smelling much better) things improved slightly with the taste but it wasn't a good offering. Overly light & basic with too much skunk & not enough flavour, still drinkable but not enjoyable. I've had worse lagers though.

From bottle, Pours clear golden colored with a thin white head with minimal retention and no lacing. Aroma of grain, bread and slight hop. Taste grainy malt with light hops on the smooth finish.

Format: a big brown 500mL bottle with an average macro label.

Appearance: pours out a light straw yellow with plenty of visible carbonation. A thin white head lasts the distance.

Aroma: grass and floral hops with some of those standard grains and adjuncts. A bit too light.

Taste: pretty much the same - those adjuncts with some decent hops. Not a bad macro lager.

Aftertaste: some hop bitterness with those grains poking their heads in.

Mouth feel: light in body with a moderate to higher carbonation, a bit dry on the finish.

Overall: not a bad macro lager - a cut above most other dodgy Euro Lager nastiness. Very drinkable and good on a hot day.
