Notes: A unique spin on a classic style, this spicy wheat ale starts with a blend of Maris Otter, white wheat and a hint of rye. After a late addition of Cascade hops, the beer is fermented on German wheat yeast. Notes of clove and banana can be found along with noticeable spice from the rye.

I normally love Hefeweizen beers but I honestly cannot say that I found this one to be memorable in any way. It checks all of the usual boxes for the style, but it just didn't excite my taste buds. I wouldn't turn down a free one, if so offered, but I would not go out of my way to drink it. Given the other reviews here, my lower take on this particular beer might be just due to my unique tastes so I recommend that you give it a try yourself.

I am finally getting around to some of the many drop-offs from my local, in-person trader, @tone77 . He has been mighty generous to me in the past to the point that I am now awash in beer. It certainly helps the cause of The CANQuest (tm), though.
From the CAN: "A unique spin on a classic style, this spicy wheat ale starts with a blend of Maris Otter, white wheat and a hint of rye. After a late addition of Cascade hops, the beer is fermented on German wheat yeast. Notes of clove and banana can be found along with noticeable spice from the rye."; "IBU 17 SRM 5".
I beCAN with some in-CAN agitation before Crack!ing open the vent on this one since a) it had sat for a while & some settling may have occurred & b) it was listed as a GER Hefeweizen so cloudiness was both expected & a part of the style. Following the loud Crack!, I went with a heavy-handed aggro pour into the C-Line of the glass. My efforts worked as it erupted, forming two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with excellent retention. Color was a lightly-cloudy Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7). Nose was very spicy, very much of clove and black pepper with only a hint of banana. Mmm. One of the reasons that I generally eschew Hefeweizens is that banana and bubble gum esters really turn me off. Clove esters CAN be achieved through fermentation at Lager temperatures, but most brewers are too impatient to do so. The addition of rye into the malt bill is a brilliant strategy, IMHO! Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was unique, in my exbeerience. This was REALLY spicy, both clove and black pepper with just a hint of banana & NO bubble gum. Phew! Mmm. This might actually CANvince me that there is hope for the style. Finish was extremely dry, not from spice adjuncts but from the spiciness created by its taste. Phew! I was REALLY impressed by this one. YMMV.
