Can

Appearance: Black glass glows ruby with strong back light and shows clarity. Holds a solid quarter finger of dark tan head that laces.

Aroma: Black Patent malt, toast, mild sweetness. A little nutty.

Taste: Malt driven but not sweet, the malt flavors are deep roasted but not burnt. Flavor is pretty mild overall, clean, mild toffee finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium light body, medium high carbonation, clean almost dry finish.

Overall: Tasty beer. Don't think it has Fuggle hops, which is the reason I don't like most porters, but this doesn't taste "American" either. Easy drinking.

Thanks to the Col. for the can

Got in a trade with The-Adjunct-Hippie. 12 ounce can into pint glass, canned on 11/22/2017. Pours crystal clear very dark brown color with a 1 finger fairly dense and rocky khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, nuttiness, and toasted dark/brown bread; with light notes of smoke, char, dark fruit, herbal, grass, pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, nuttiness, and toasted dark/brown bread; with light notes of smoke, char, dark fruit, herbal, grass, pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate roast/char and herbal/grassy/spicy hop bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, nuttiness, toasted dark/brown bread, light smoke/char, herbal, grass, pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great hop/roast bitter/sweet balance; and zero cloying/acrid/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/roast bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 6%. Overall this is an excellent American porter. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mellowly bitter/drying finish. Very rich for the ABV, great well rounded porter malt complexity, and solid earthy hop balance that isn't overdone. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

Very nice porter! Poured from a can into a tulip glass. Rich dark brown with a nice beige head and great lacing. Smokey, chocolate smell that follows to the taste. Flavors of cinnamon and a hint of coffee. Everything melds very well and is subtle and satisfying.

Toasted black beer with a quick head. Smell is pungent with some almost wine-like tannins like grape. Also some hop dankness, but I might bebiased. The sip is a really crisp, really easy drinkee best gulped down cold. Most amazing thing whout the beer is the creeeamy afterfeel and taste. Samn

As of mid-2017, Coop [unwisely] changed this fantastic product from year-round to fall seasonal and [wisely] from 16 oz 4-packs to 12 oz 6ers. It reappeared on shelves in late November.

Fairly dark pour. Malty roasted aroma. Delicious porter, with milky/ roasted charry oats, hints of cocoa. Feels medium- thin, nice and slick with a pleasant aftertaste. Such a robust beer. Of the few porters I've tried, none were memorable, except for this one.

Dark chocolate brown with no head or retention, but leaves lace as it's consumed; 100% opaque.

Smells of cocoa, milk, lactose, some blanched nuts, roast malt, a faint bit of coffee in there too.

It's got this nutty chocolate roastiness to it that's undeniably delectable. A surprising pacific style hop punch with orangey citrus surfaces to dirty things up, but it's not overwhelming. A carbonated buzz and semi dry parch wrap up this profile nicely.

Overall Gran Sport is a fine porter that I'd have again. Generally most places sell a four pack for around $9 and that's par for this beer. I'd love to try a nitro version if they ever get around to it.

An incredibly good porter, while not overly complex on the palate, it is smooth, tasty, and easy to drink. Personally, this was my favorite of the Coop Ale Works' lineup that I tried during my time in Oklahoma.
