Style: Märzen / Oktoberfest

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.60%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
Taking a step away from our namesake, once a year we craft a lager worthy of extra days in the cellar. The COOP Oktoberfest combines Munich malt, Bavarian hops and a traditional German yeast, and calls for the celebration of fall's arrival. It's time to find a tent, fill your stein, prost, yodel and polka!

On tap. Pours a slightly hazy copper color with a one finger, moderately receding head that leaves two inches of lacing. Nose of roasted malt, caramel, and subtle herb-iness. Taste follows the nose with roasted malt, nuttiness, and a delicate note of spicy hops on the finish. Medium-low carbonation and medium body that is very smooth.
This is a nice Märzen. Nice roasty and toasty smooth body that doesn't neglect the traditional german hops. Much better on tap than canned. Another solid beer from COOP.

Pours amber/orange with a thumb of pearl colored head. Minimal head retention & lacing

S: Breadyness, pears

T: Follows the nose, a little leafy hop & a touch of taffy sweetness up front. Dryness, coupled with pears & a little caramel as this warms. Finishes dry with little bit of leafy hops, pears & breadyness

MF: Medium body, firm carbonation, nice balance

Drinks so easy, a really nice example of the style

This is the first ever canning of this brew, canned on 9/10/2015, reviewed 9/19/2015.
Pours out to a rich off white head and copper-orange color. Aroma is malty, toasty and slightly sweet smelling. Flavor is toasty munich malt and subtle noble hops to balance perfectly. Mouthfeel is light-medium. This is a rock solid Marzen from Coop, who does not release crap beers ever.

This stuff is best within about 30 seconds of the pour. Very thin head which dissipates quickly to nothing. Almost no nose at all. Looks nice though - pretty copper color.
The real problem is simply the taste. To me its almost on the border of being rancid. I've purchased this two years going now, and both 6 packs were alike. Its just not a great beer, not a good example of an Martzen and not good with anything. Very flat feel. It is drinkable, but I don't think I will repeat.

Poured can into snifter. Lively head that fades. Rich thick Märzen color.

Smells of malt and apricots or other such dried fruit. Faint spice.

Malty taste with spice balance. Very bready type of Märzen flavor. Bitter elements remind of some American brown ales.

Mouth is smooth and thick. Carbonation isn't too much.

Coop's seasonal exception to their ale-centric brewing is actually a very good Oktoberbest. Beautiful color too. Okies really got this one right.

Poured into a shaker pint glass.

Look: Hazy liquid carmel colored body. Cream colored head that recedes to a film. No lacing.

Aroma: Bready malts, sweet caramel, faint metallic notes.

Taste: Malt-forward with caramel sweetness and some breadiness, subtle spicy hops in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied.

Overall: Not bad at all, but probably not worth the nearly $12 price tag for a 4 pack. I bought a single can for nearly $5. Not worth it.

First had this Oktoberfest poured from 12-oz. can, purchased in Norman, Okla., into faceted mug. Nice color, COOP's Oktoberfest lager is also fairly true to style.

Light on the spices, a bready, malty, thick, grainy mess

Taste Rating in Words: It's the crazy relative in the corner. Sure they are entertaining, if it comes to that, but you'd be more comfortable if they just didn't show up.
