The Territorial Reserve Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout began with a wagon full of eight different grains, resulting in starting gravity of 28P. It was aged for 13 months in bourbon barrels before blending to create a spirit-forward experience. Savor accordingly.

This review is for the 2012 TROAIS.

The beer poured very dark and opaque with a creamy foam. It smelled of coffee and bourbon. The taste was a bit smoky with coffee and chocolate notes and the warmth of bourbon. The mouthfeel was creamy and warm and inviting.

While my instincts say that the 2010 version was one of the best beers I've ever sipped, I don't think this one is quite there (yet). But still quite enjoyable nevertheless.

Poured a jet-black color with a small, light brown head of foam. It smelled of bourbon, oak, vanilla and dark chocolate. Great roasty flavor with chocolate, vanilla, oak and booziness.

Black oily pour.

Not much on the nose, very weak, some oak character, fresh cooked pumpkin, molasses, vanilla, roast malts.

Flavor is barrel, vanilla, wood, cherry, molasses. And a beautiful rise of coffee breath after.

Feel is thick and huge just like it should be.

Worth seeking out. Super great!!

2012 Release consumed and rated in July 2018 is currently shown.
2011 Release, drank in 2016. Rating: Look-4, Smell-4, Taste-4.25, Feel-3.75, Overall-4.
On tap. 2011 Release. Pours black with a tan, one finger head that dissipates moderately and leaves an inch of lacing down the tulip glass. Aroma of roasted coffee, oak, and sweet milk chocolate. Surprisingly chocolate forward, especially compared to later years of the release. Taste is roasted malts and chocolate with subtle notes of coffee and a sweet finish. Alcohol is in the finish, but not too strongly. Low carbonation and medium body with minimal amounts of lingering alcohol. Body is lighter than expected for a barrel aged imperial stout, but it has retained the expected creaminess.
It was aged in Jack barrels, and turned out differently than the 2012 and 2014 releases. It was lighter and sweeter overall than the later versions. I enjoyed the creamy, more chocolate and coffee forward notes to it and liked it better than the later oakier, boozier versions. 2011 ended up being more unconventional but still very enjoyable.
