A straightforward malt body supports the distinctive bouquet of Columbus and Falconers Flight hops that impart citrus, grapefruit and pine notes characteristic of the West Coast style. F5 is a belligerent hop reckoning.

This is my first review, lets hope I can make it presentable!

Appearance: This beer pours a moderate gold color that leans a bit orange. Great lacing and good foam.

Smell: It smells piney and with a hint of fruit, perhaps orange? Hard for me to put my finger on it.

Taste: This beer is a touch fruity on the front at which point the fruit slowly fades and givesway to herbal notes. It has a hint of that alcohol smell (another called it boozy, not quite that strong IMO). This is an IPA and it wouldn't be an IPA without a good hoppy flavor. The hops are present from start to finish with what I would describe as a mild to moderate hoppy bite at the end.

Mouthfeel: This is what I would consider a medium bodied beer. It's not light and not heavy. The beer goes down smooth and has a solid hop presence throughout. I'm not generally a fan of fruity beers, I would not consider this fruity but there is a hint of fruit that is more prominent up front and givesway to the stronger hop finish.

Overall: This is by far the best IPA brewed here in OK and is more of a true IPA in my opinion when compared with some others, like Marshall's Atlas IPA (also good but different). In my opinion this is a top notch IPA that can compete with anything else I've had.

I've had this served on draught at a couple of local joints and it's currently in my keg here at the house.

Nice color, retentive head, perfect hoppy taste. Excellent example of an IPA from Oklahoma. Can drink this all day. Prost!

Here at the Famous Hideaway Pizza in Bartlesville and this was the best beer on two here, ratingswise. Indeed, this was worth its ranking on here as it was as good as the brews I had when out on the left coast on this trip!

This had a lovely copper hue to it as it was topped off with a full head of foam that never fully settled down. Wondrous rings of lacing were left behind as each was well-defined and easily bled down to the next, in the pint glass that this was served in. Dank citrus, pine, and earthy hops were in the nose as there was lemon, orange rind, and deep forest on the palate. Some caramel and tea spice emerged once this fully warmed up as this was enjoyable and impressively good for a brew from these parts!

Somewhat oily and sticky, this had a full body to it and enough carbonation to keep it tingly on my teeth throughout my session. The alcohol was present, as I warmed up throughout my time with this, but it was never easily noticeable. Loved this beer from start to finish as it’s worth looking out for when here in the Sooner State!

When poured from a can there is a nice 1/4 inch head. A slightly turbulent amber appearance. There are malt and notes of citrus and pine flavor. Smooth and subtle but with an abv of 7.1 it will jump kick you quick !
A very smooth and full IPA.
Enjoy!

Great lacing. Piney bready and malt forward. Refreshing. Classic American ipa. Great summer beer. Hops are muted even though the ibu is 85. Slight dank aftertaste. No smell at all. Look is weak but the sum is greater than the parts. A solid beer overall.

Appearance:
Poured into a nonic pint glass from a stovepipe (19.2 oz) Can. Date 10/14/21. Clear, effervescent Orange-Gold, Three finger head that is topped with a perfect lasting mini-dome within the head which is generated by the bottom etching of a nonic pint glass. It never dissipated. Reminds me of the little "overshooting top" vorticity dome the forms atop a tornadic thunderstorm. How fitting. Lacing was irratic but huge. http://convectivestorm.blogspot.com/p/overshooting-tops-in-vis-and-ir-bt.html

Aroma:
Bready malt, citrus-dominant hops. A touch of pine.

Flavor
Flavor is reflective of aroma: Bready, crackery malt, slightly overpowered by the citrusy and piney hop flavors and a lasting and pleasantly acidic and resiny bitterness that dries out the malt. One of the maltier West Coast IPAs out there. Very Old-School American IPA. Not exactly a palate wrecker.

Mouthfeel
Medium, High CO2, very slight alcohol warmth, Sugary texture. No undue astringency.

Overall
An Oklahoma classic. This used to have a >100 IBU rating and was hazier in it's original recipe. This newer recipe pulls the punch a bit on bitterness --85 IBU-- making it more approachable yet retaining the overall character and keeping within style guidelines.

While a certain number of people are critical of the change, the move to pull back on the bitterness is paying off. This is a good commercial move for Coop as this brand is now more palatable to the majority of consumers in their market. I used to stay away form F5 but I kind of like it now and I usually don't go for IPAs. As a trained beer judge, I know what the acceptable parameters are for style and this fits within those limits. Ignore the few snobby haters. F5 is tasty, fits the broad definition of the style, has no technical flaws and has some traits on the grain side of things that stand out above the rest.

And one more thought: This tastes like the IPA I used to drink when I still liked IPAs (1995-2010).

12oz can, tulip, 4/15/21 on the bottom.

Nice sunset color with a very thick orange-tinted head. The lacing is crazy thick.

Candied orange, peach rings, caramel malt, quite sweet.

It’s got the same flavor profile that’s heavy on sweet, candied orange with a little bit of alcohol, like grand marnier. A very nice medium bitterness with a little bit of pine helps round it out and bumps it up here.

Medium body with tight little bubbles that make it almost creamy.

It’s an American IPA in the classic sense and a good one from Oklahoma to pickup.

Favorite beer these days. Could do with out that slight fruit aftertaste but still my favorite so ... smooth stuff. If you're looking for a full beer, like a lager but not quite that heavy, perfect on a thirsty day you'd probably find this one worthy of top shelf status.
