500ml bottle poured into tulip 25/11/13
A very dark brown with a deep cola edge, two fingers of mocha foam has great retention leaving 5 distinct pencil thin rings before falling to a thin film, looks great
S chocolate syrup, faint smoke, floral, lots of tropical citrus, pine, a little booze and licorice
T coffee I didn't smell, big citrus and pine but the char and dark chocolate's just as strong, two extremes seem to work together
M medium full, a bitter bite, slick, almost slimy, a little heat, lots of rind, char and chocolate on the finish
O balance if far off in every direction if that makes any sense, rind, pine, big dark roast and char mingle well together, booze is well concealed
best of both worlds in this one, big swings from one sip to another, there's many things I don't like about Alberta but my selection of beer isn't one of them. I'm curious how this has a BB of 2017, perhaps the BIPA BW is the next style?

Really mellow but rich and toasty, which is very surprising especially for a black ipa. So many of them are over-hopped and/or bitter, but not this one. On the other hand, this one is not at all bland or watery either. This guy is super drinkable but also complex. It's in the top three black ipa's I've ever had -- and I've tasted at least a dozen of them.

Black pour with khaki foam. Coffee, sweet banana and clove notes. Coffee bean, chocolate malt and dry hop flavors. Dry medium mouthfeel, dry hop finish. Some astringency but alcohol otherwise masked well.

I like this style. It's not a stout but there are some similarities. A little bit bitter but quite easy to drink, very flavorful. Very nice !

Poured nearly jet black with a two finger mocha colored head atop that settled slowly into a frothy mass, great retention to the head. The big citric, resiny hop aromas really took me back in a good way,I knew the hops were gonna be big but this was great.Again the hops are huge along with some dark roast, and slight woodiness.Flavors are a bit more even, the resiny hops are mixed with a healthy dose of roast and molasses-like sweetness. This is a great beer, best of the style I have had, just a great hop profile.
