750ml. Bottle > Duvel

Honey golden color with a massive, rocky, off-white tower of foam. It will take a while to fall.....but there always remains a fine bubbly layer of foam and plenty of nice lace.

Honey and biscuit scented malt aroma, which is a bit of surprise concidering the style. Herbal, leafy jop scent in a subtle way. Caramel and sweet, yet sour fruits are also popping out of the nose. Sweeter fruits pop out later, along with a nice herbal/peppery hop and bigger sweet 'n sour yeast aroma's.

A rather classic but very heavy malty taste, semi-bitter, dry and herbal hops flow around the malt with sour-grapes in the funky Belgian yeast. As a Belgian Tripel IPA, the hops are very subtle, mostly, herbal and grassy. The malt is interesting and flavorful but a bit too heavy. Dry, bitter hop effect turns it up a notch as the liquid warms a bit. The malt tastes like toasted caramel, I'm used to a very crisp and light malt for this style. The hops and yeast blend very well together creating a very dry-earth complexity. Herbal and bitter earth notes become more intense over a petiod of time and even more fruity hop notes as well.

The feel has a dry but malty body, mild crispness with a full body effect, ending dry. The boozy heat tingle is well hidden for 9%.

A unique funk to this one, a bit of a surprise in some aspects of the aroma and flavor. Interesting for sure with decent complexity. A unique Belgian brew.

I know it's wrong to do so, because this beer is 18 months past its best-by date and Total Wine is an a-hole store for selling it, full-price no less, but I'm going to review this quickly for posterity.
Nice head, super foamy body, the kind that gets stuck in your throat as it goes down. Smell is crisp with apricot, peach, and classic sweet Belgian yeast overtones. Obviously, all that dry-hopping influence is long gone. Flavor is likewise: despite the resinous, thick texture, there's pretty much no bitterness, just more fruity, malty sweetness. I would love to try this fresh, because I know the Belgians rock those IPAs when given half a chance. But after all this time, it's basically a sweet, under-spiced trippel.

neat to see this one on tap, definitely not a common offering that i ever see. murky rusty orange colored, thicker looking, but highly effervescent with a big tall white head on it and lots of bubbles pushing through the mass to get to it. interesting nose here, hoppy for sure, but at least as much yeast driven, and the combination between the two elements is something uncommon, not what we are used to, even in american made belgian ipa types. the hops are both grassy and spicy, intense in the nose, and the malt is sweet. notes of orange peel and straw, with a really fruity yeast strain, almost sweet there too. in the flavor, the yeast is wildly warm fermented belgian estery and intense, banana, citrus, and winter spices. the hops have a dried spiciness as well, and there is a lot of caramelized or even candied malt sweetness all the way though. its a lot going on, bold flavors in each facet, but it comes together pretty well and its not all that boozy. it tastes to me a little old, like the yeast is starting to tire and the hops are falling, but its still quite good, and while i dont really love this as a whole, i like it for being so original. i would not readily describe this as an ipa, but its well hoppy. neat brew, would like to try more stuff from these guys...

Can't complain too much I got this beer for around a buck. Looks old super hazy dark amber color with an intense 1/4 inch of head that makes for epic lacing. Smell is less hoppy than I expected for a Belgium IPA and taste agrees with more dry fruit and some faded hop sweetness. Body is pretty nice it is fairly easy to drink and not skunked.

Overall fresh or old this beer is a decent balance of hops to Belgium fruit esters. Would I be willing to pay the 6 dollar fresh price? Probably not...

Orange colour with a nice fluffy head of foam. Weak IPA smell of grapefruit and melon. Tastes like a fine triple, with citrus esters, malt and spice. Some pine in the finish, but not exactly bitter. Alcohol is noticable, but mixes well with the other flavours. Smooth and medium-bodied. Lower score in the overall box, because it is sold as a "triple IPA". The IPA part is lacking here: the hop flavours in the smell are fairly weak and the bitterness is also absent. This is a fine triple, please market it as one.

Poured from a bottle into a Speiglau IPA glass.

Look is a slightly hazy orange yellow with a big frothy head.

Lots and lots of Belgian yeast esters and and a herbal hop note at the end.

Taste is like a big hopped up Belgian pale ale. Can't taste the alcohol but a light dry malt is balanced with a hoppy yeasty taste.

Good, but doesn't quite live up to the name.

Troubadour Magma
Belgian IPA – 9% - 750ml Bottle – Best Before 12.11.2018

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Troubadour Magma is an amber colored beer with the bitterness of an American IPA but balanced with the fruitiness of a Belgian Triple. Enjoy the explosion of fruity aromas from the dry-hopping. -- A Triple IPA wich Czech bittering hops and Simcoe for Dry-hopping. Made by De Proef for Drie Musketeers, Ursel.

Appearance: Pours deep Amber with a huge white head, very fluffy, lots of lacing. Beer is hazy.

Aroma: Fresh hops, very hop forward with mango, passion fruit and lemon. Lots of fruity hop notes. Belgian yeasty aromas just about describable in the background. Smells fantastic!

Taste: A little malt flavour upfront, then a huge hit of mango in the middle. Then it comes a nice fruity finish and some pleasant alcohol warmth. Very well done for a big IPA - has lots of hop flavour but is not overly bitter.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, fairly resinous with a dry finish.

Overall: For an IPA this just so well balanced - a welcome change in the current trend of pale, overly bitter IPAs.
