Tasting at Fat Heads Tap House on 10/15/2014, CLE Beer Week release of Hop Stalker.

Clear saffron-yellow elixir presented in nonic pint glass. Two-finger, thick, white head, heavy laced glass at the end of the draught.

Really nice battle of the hops going on here: dank, resinous pine in a battle with the citrus, mango and grapefruit. The sweet, sweet citrus wins by a nose.

Crisp citrus flavors of mango, pineapple and grapefruit cut by what seems like cane sugar caramel, then smooth hop pine, resin and subtle spice come up to provide balance. The mouth waters. The citra and simcoe hops really create a complex amalgam of flavors.

Medium body, nicely slick, alcohol hidden.

Another fantastic hop-driven brew from Matt Cole and FHs.

Aroma: Strong citrus hop notes up front. Abundant lemon and melon notes. Clean fermentation character. Dank and grassy character appears as the beer opens up. Flowery and honey-like sweetness appears as well.

Appearance: Hazy amber pours with a low white head. Head retention is good.

Flavor: Wow…bitter grassy hop notes up front followed by more citrus…lemon and orange with grapefruit highlights. Balance is to the aggressive hop bitterness. Finish is lingering with pleasant citrus bitterness.

Moutheel: Medium bodied, slightly oily, with high carbonation. No alcohol heat.

Overall impression: An immensely drinkable IPA.

Poured from 1 pint aluminum can into a goblet.

A - Dark gold or light copper color. Clear but just a bit of haze. Off-white head subsides quickly, but maintains a thin sheet and good lacing.

S - Aromas are dominated by hops, which are a mix of earthy and citrusy notes. Citrus is grapefruit-like. Not much malt or anything else comes through. Overall impression is clean and fresh and hoppy.

T - Hops dominate totally, with mostly grapefruit and pine ntes. No malt or yeast notes get through. Alcohol taste not noticeable. Fairly dry finish.

M - Medium body. Very strong bitterness from the hops, with a harsh astringency in mid-palate that fades toward the end. Some alcohol presence. Low carbonation.

O - This is a one-trick pony with extreme hops bitterness levels, but nothing else to add complexity or interest for me.

I have no option but to rate this beer straight 5's across the board. THIS is what a fresh hop beer should taste like. so dank and demanding, but so easy to drink. if I could drink this year round, I would have little use for most other brews. out of the park fat man

Bright copper color on the pour it's head is cream colored forms thick bands of lacing evenly as it settles out a bit.

Aroma has dank earthy citrus notes hops right off the vine with tropical fruit notes think papaya and pineapple in there amongst the foray of hops. Biscuit malts give off a bit of bread like notes and perceived malt sweetness.

Flavor is pure hop juice, I'm sucking on hop candy raw hops with balanced sweetness Citra is one of the hops harmed in the making of this beer. Big citrus rind, tropical fruit notes including mango/pineapple on the palate. Stream of hop oils crosses the palate, this batch was canned on 10/15/14 I'm in heaven!!!

Mouthfeel is medium bodied slightly resinous in the fact that you feel like there are hop oils flowing across your palate within that experience is one of the most amazing hop profiles I've come across so drinkable, burping hop hops even carbonation canned a day ago.

Overall, incredible experience from Fat Head's I hope to have more like this...I'm probably driving down to Fathead's again soon to grab some more!!! They are that good!

It’s nearly impossible to find a better wet hop beer where I am (about 25 miles away from the brewery). It’s unrivaled, by any wet hopped ale in distro in Ohio. Maybe even the entire US.

The aromatics simply exemplify how a top-tier IPA should be; balanced on the head of a pin consisting of your usual bright citrus, deeply ripened tropical fruits, some floral sheathed between, sappy resin, and overall just that rich alpha acid stanky pungency. Imagine all that doubled up into dripping intensity.

The flavor indentically replicates the nose with such clarity and finesse, yet with an aggressiveness that instantly forgives into a clean, scintillating finish.

You’re an idiot if you don’t like this beer.

Thanks to CaptCleveland, a ridiculously generous guy who keeps sending me good things for no apparent reason. I’ll have to ask him about that someday. On second though, no , I won’t. 16 oz. can that arrived with a bunch of friends yesterday.

The pour is pure sunshine. I swear, if I hold it above my head, I can feel the UV rays pouring on my receding hairline. Crystal clear. The nose is held hostage by earthy hops that are so clean I can smell a touch of Palmolive. Subdued pine, pretty tame.

Hop Stalker almost choked me on hops…not just the first taste, but the second, too. Srs, am a bit verklempt. Now that I’m prepared, this is like biting into a hop tamale. By the fourth sip I have hop burn on the top of my mouth. Searingly bitter, with ginormince amounts of pine initially, citrus comes out to play as the liquid warms. Fresh hop earthiness lurks in the mid-palate, & a malty caramel bliss accompanies without cutting the hop pleasure at all: that, my friends, is some trick. Ends with everything coming together like a well-produced political ad. Very slick in the mouth. 16 ounces? Yes, please. This is a slugger.

Fat Heads can do no wrong with the hop in my book. This brew can stand up with Head Hunter & Hop JuJu in the pantheon. Swig after swing is just beautiful; am going to have to do a side-by-side with The Crusher to determine a ‘winner’ – oh, wait, having both, that would be me. Excellent beer.

12 oz. bottle. Hazy deep orange. Medium white head. Smell is pine and grassy hops. Some caramel malts. Taste is grassy and almost immediately bitter. A little bit of sweet citrus behind it. Malty in the middle and bitterness takes over in the finish. Medium heavy. Flavorful but a bit too heavy for my tastes.

10/10/17 bottled on date.

Pours with a little haze on an otherwise light orange hue. Aroma is predominantly piney and citrus. Mango notes as well. Great citrus notes on a full flavored hoppy body. Bitterness is heavy in the finish. Really tasty stuff, only ping is for the assertive bitterness.
