I had this tonight at the taphouse. Hands down the best black ipa I've had.

4 oz pour on tap

A: Light brown leaning towards black body with a dense body but you can see through it too. Had a light white head that rimmed the glass.

S: Lots of floral resiny hops mixed in with a light roasted malts and a little coffee.

T: Hops smack you right up front resiny a little fruity and bitter then the roasted malts come in and try to smooth over the bitterness with some chocolate and roasted grain.

M: Lighter to medium bodied not too dense but not thin either.

O: Pretty good Black IPA although I wish the malts would have smoothed out the edges of bitterness from the hops, they try but they never quite make it.

32oz growler filled at Fat Head's Tap House in Middleburg Hts., Ohio

Growler poured into a tulip. Pours a dark brown, almost black, with a light khaki head that fades leaving nice retention and solid lacing. The aromas are great. It's pretty dank. It's your typical Fat Head's hop profile with some subtle cocoa malts in the mix. Tropical and citrus notes. Grapefruit and mango. Pine is there. Some black pepper in the mix. The flavors follow the nose, but the chocolate qualities become more alive. Lots of dark chocolate. More grapefruit and fresh pine needles. Pine resin in the mix as well. Malts are definitely present, but the hops seem to shine. Rich and bold. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is nice. It's full-bodied with moderate carbonation. Slick and smooth. Easy and fun to drink.

This is a great Black IPA. It's exactly what I'd expect from Fat Head's. I can see why this brew recently won a gold medal at GABF. Well done.

Citrusy stout was my initial reaction. Good, a combination of my favorite two styles of beer. Never cared for the combination of citrus and chocolate but this is pretty good.

Super dark/black with a good tan head. Smells citrus hoppy. Taste like lots of citrus hops and some toasty malts. Body is pretty light with medium light carbonation. Ok beer.
