While raiding the pantry of hops, Fat Heads stumble upon a copious blend of Chinook and Citra to fuel an imperial IPA with a deep, spicy and dank bitterness to recruit the staunchest of hop heads.

Nearly bright in copper and gold, the strikingly clear Hop Marauder caps off with a bright white foam stance. As its devious and dank fruitiness rolls off of the nose, so does a rife perfume of dirty greens, earthy legumes and a peppery pine character. As its citronella scent soon gives way to a first palate impression of caramel, crust and honey, notions of granola come to mind.

As the hops blossom on the middle palate, the full and fruity spectrum highlights aspects of bruised orange, bruised pineapple and bruised grapefruit. Over-ripe in their character hint of mango and papaya lead into a accute bitterness of peppery arugula, onion, garlic, hemp and pine tar as the taste comes to a close.

Medium bodied and noticeably fuller than usual, the bold IPA finishes decidedly on the dank and earthen side of sweet with an extended bitterness that resonates like dirty weed on the aftertaste. Save this beer for those who still wear Nirvana shirts, carry the aura of both pachouli and cabbage, and drive primer-only '70's full size conversion vans.

It's really nice to get fresh brews in styles like this that benefit from it so much. This sample is about two weeks old. It is a treat!

It pours not at all cloudy but a rusty gold with nice lacing. The aroma is stanky hops and malts - very stanky. The taste is a bitter hop bomb. The piles of malts over overshadowed by bigger piles of hops. It's big and bitter and thick, but not a hazy, for a change.

Highly recomended. Get them now, while they are crazy fresh.

Had this on 2021-09-30 near Pittsburgh, PA from a 12oz canned on 2021-09-26

A - Clear gold with a 2-finger white head and great lace

S - Heartily dank, light pineapple and pine. Mild malt. Aromatic for sure

T - Orange candy, pine, fresh hop bud with less dankness than I expected from the smell, light pepper and a bit of malt/caramel sweetness. Not overly bitter. Delicious West Coast DIPA that is right up my alley.

M - Medium-high body and light-medium carbonation. Smooth and substantial. Nice.

O - Delicious West Coast DIPA that is right up my alley. Recommended.

Canned on 9/16/21. 12oz can poured into a tulip.

Pours golden with nice clarity and transparency; white head fades leaving solid retention and sticky lacing. Nice color.

The aromas have citrus along with some hints of caramel. Some floral notes. Some breads. Malts are there.

The flavors have a nice burst of grapefruit leading the way. Some pine. More caramel in the mix. Subtle sweetness. Solid bitterness. Malts do their thing. Finishes on the drier side. Alcohol basically goes unnoticed.

Mouthfeel is nice. It's full-bodied with moderate carbonation. It's fluffy, slick, smooth and slightly sharp.

This is a pretty solid DIPA. It has just about everything that you'd expect from a Fat Head's IPA, more or less. It drinks a little bit bigger than it is, but I don't consider that a bad thing at all. It's simply a well crafted classic and traditional example of the style. It's enjoyable and fun to drink. I like it.

Appearance: Pours a clear burnt orange with a frothy white head that leaves some streaks

Smell: Very piney, with some honey, mango and grapefruit

Taste: A little tropical, up front, with the honey and mango tones but the pine and pith wallop the palate through the middle; fairly bitter finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A bit too much on the piney side when the world has moved in a tropical direction

Nice balance on the nose between tropical aromatics, stone fruit and a dash of 'resin'. Taste is more piney and alpha acidic, but there are some nice peach and pear notes underneath as well to smooth it out. Another solid IPA from fat heads

Big, bold and a hoppy monster. Well crafted and enjoyable. Very little malt to support the onslaught of hops but it works well and is a nice change of pace DIPA. Finishes dry and bitter. Not in the league of JuJu or Dank Sinatra but really good nonetheless. Recommended if you want a hop bomb that strips the enamel off of your teeth.

Pours a dark brownish orange. Clear and crisp. Thick frothy white head dissipates slowly leaving a layer of foam on the glass with a thin layer of white foam on top of the beer.

Aroma is a blend of piney hops, honey, pine needles, citrus fruit, mango, and grapefruit.

Taste follows the nose with notes of pine, pine needles, sap, grapefruit, mango, honey and an almost blueberry flavor on the back end. Very smooth flavors that are well balanced. Its somewhat bitter on the backend but not overly so.

Feel is light, drinkable, and smooth. Mild carbonation.

Overall this is a really nice DIPA. Excellently crafted and very tasty.

Description: Honey colored and clear with white head and lacing. Smell is big and bold: dank, resin, pine, mango and floral. Tons going on here and it smells fantastic. Taste is similar with the mango and fruit more pronounced than with the aroma but the pine, dank and hoppy, delicious, bitter funk all come through as well. Everything plays together very well and the alcohol is masked. Body is medium to heavy for an IPA and a smooth drinker.

Suggested food pairing: Chicken kabobs

If you like this beer then you should also try: Bodhi

Overall: 4.5 (This beer is very good and I would definitely have it again) Wow. Picked this up on a whim without much research and it was outstanding. Once again, Fat Head's has proven that it knows what to do with some hops. This is certainly in the same league as Hop Juju, which, if you've had Hop Juju, you know is pretty high praise. Head to head, I think I might even give this the edge over Juju. Seriously. If you get a chance, don't pass by this one!

32 ounce growler
Served in a tulip glass

This beer pours a beautiful amber color with burnt orange highlights. It is topped with an inch of beige head that leaves a little lacing.

It has a dank aroma intermingled with citrus notes. Orange seems to be the most prevalent.

The flavor is dank with loads of citrus and pine.

Medium, slick mouthfeel

It is brewed by Fat Head's and contains hops. How could it possibly be anything but great?

It's hard not to compare this to Hop Juju when it comes out around the same time. I can't say it's quite as good, but it's still great. Unlike Juju, there's a lot of pine here (not just fruit), but the fruit that's there is tropical. Comes with a nice big head and really smooth feel. Carbonation is moderate. Alcohol is well concealed. Not overly sweet as some DIPAs can be. Oh, and lots and lots of hops.

From a snifter on tap at the brewery

It is a mostly clear, deep gold color. Moderate soapy white head

It smells pretty dank/weed like. Very green hops with pungent mango, grapefruit, melon. Malts are fairly light.

Tastes a lot like it smells with a very "west coast" like piney/floral/medical overtone. Very pungent. A lot of spicy mango and some ripe melon and grapefruit. A bit of noticeable alcohol. Strong, consistent bitterness with a lot of oily resin.

This beer reminds me of a less balanced Hop Ju Ju. It's more boozy (even though it is not ABV wise), less fruity, and more hoppy and bitter. Don't sleep on this beer though. It is outstanding

12 oz pour into snifter on tap at brewery.

A: dark gold, deep rich amber in color with a small soapy white head.

S: Lots of tangerine, grapefruit, and pineapple, a little alcohol on the end.

T: Lots of bitter grapfruit, pineapple, lots of resin bitterness with a light malt backbone that finishes a little boozy.

M: Medium bodied with decent carbonation a little bit of slickness from the alcohol.

O: This is a great beer, not as good as hop juju which tends to me more bright fruit flavors this one is more dank and weedy fruits. The alcohol finish brings the rating of this beer down a touch, but if you don't mind that too much this is a pretty great beer overall.

O: Super fresh and tasty. I would love to see this in a bottle

Brand new! Just tapped today!

Pours out a bright, clear golden orange.

Aroma starts off with papaya and mango with citrus and goes into more pine, resin, dank and earthy tones as well. Even a slight melon type of note too.

Taste is also very tropical and bright up front. Lots of mango, hints of pineapple, sweet orange, grapefruit, bit of melon, papaya and then piney, resin, dank, earthy and slightly floral. Some "green" tasting hop flavor too. Lots of complexity.

Medium bodied, crisp, clean, firm but not overwhelming bitterness. Super smooth with no trace of the ABV!

Another killer West Coast IPA from Fat Head's!!
