Firm bitterness and just the right amount of malty body are married with tantalizing layers of pine, papaya, earth and tropical fruits.

Canned on: 9-19-23
A - Bright, crystal clear medium gold with very dense, bright white creamy lacing. Carbonation is slow and steady.
S - Light grainy malt with resiny pine and some tropical fruit.
T - Light malt base with resiny pine over the top from start to finish, some tropical fruit, spicy tropical fruit rind, and ends nicely balanced with a lingering piny resin bitterness.
M - Big viscous body for a D-IPA.
O - I always enjoy the beers from Fat Head's and this one doesn't disappoint.

Pours a crystal clear golden orange color, so clear that it almost glows, and sports a fluffy off white head that leaves a nice bubbly cap and coats the glass as you drink the beer. Gorgeous WCDIPA.
The nose is nicely dank, with bright tangerine and papaya notes most pro, plus a bit of resiny pine. This is all about “nicely bitter old school” WCDIPA, AKA my beer nerd sweet spot .
That is where the taste goes, with the tangerine and papaya delicious together and the pine imparting a most welcome (for me) resiny bitterness that is well balanced by a bit of caramalt at the back of the palate and leaves that bitterness to linger, reminding you to take another drink of this delicious beer.
The mouthfeel is medium and drying, on point for the style and this beer. I am a fan of the style, the brewery, and this beer - it is very well executed and a pleasure to drink.

A fingers worth of khaki head that is equal parts crisp and lush... Modest retention gives way to a full inviting lacing and collar... Slightly chill hazed medium gold reminiscent of a Belgian ale... Nose is hop forward but much more subdued than expected given the name... The hops come to the party on the palate and take an a mix of earthy and piney... medium bodied with a somewhat silky feel... Moderate carbonation... Solid beer...

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a golden/range color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of pine, light citrus. Taste is dank pine, a touch of citrus, some alcohol, considerable bitterness. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is an enjoyable beer.

Tasted on tap at the brewery taproom in Middleburg Heights, OH. Didn't have time for a full review, but my impression was of excellent Imperial IPA aromas and flavors with great depth and complexity of both hops and malt.

On tap at Flaherty’s Three Flags Inn in Macedon, NY.
This one pours a clear golden orange, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This smells like spicy hop oils, orange, lime, melon, resinous pine, and a touch of malt.
This is a bang-on West Coast style IPA, as is expected from Fat Heads. It’s super pungent and aromatic on the palate, with a big but clean bitterness, and a nice juicy hop character – melon, grapefruit, orange, etc.
This is light bodied, especially for the ABV, with very little booziness or hint that it’s the strength of a Double IPA. It’s quite drinkable.
Fat Heads still probably makes the best West Coast IPAs outside of the West Coast itself.

Poured from the can into a Spiegelau IPA glass.
Deep bronze orange, with gleaming crystal clarity and fine rising carbonation. Fluffed up billowing off white rich head. Tall but not over reaching with a good three plus height, and pill like lacing. Great looking brew.
Dank and a rich spicy hop note. Bit of large caramel but balances nicely, with though a bit of noticeable fussel alcohol.
Palate is rich, but hits hard. Earth and pungent herbs smack with a big pine blast which is highlighted with some boozy heat. Finishes big and menthol, with a simple backbone of malt but lacks some of the rich feel expected in a dipa.
Solid double, but just runs a bit hot and heat rich.
