Imported German malts give this Fest Bier a chestnut red color. Nice aromas of toasted grains with a crisp, crackery malt flavor which is balanced by imported German noble hops. Smooth and highly drinkable.

12oz can received as a gift from a friend. Canned on 07/21/22, so this is just over 3 1/2 months old.

Look: Very nice appearance. It is a nice medium copper color, bordering on amber. There is one finger of beige-colored head and lots of small- and small to medium-sized bubbles rising up the glass. It's basically clear, with perhaps a faint haze.

Smell: At the risk of sounding cliched, this smells like an Oktoberfest Marzen. Bready malt backbone and lots of spicy, earthy hops. Subtle fruitiness (mild apple sweetness and cherries) and caramel malt aromas on the finish that smell really nice and slightly rich.

Taste: Very smooth and tasty. The flavors certainly mimic the nose. This beer is extremely well-balanced. Really nice toasted grain flavor that is balanced by mild hop bite/bitterness that leads to a relatively dry and crisp finish. Very drinkable.

Feel: Medium-bodied with a nice crispness on the finish. Nicely carbonated.

Overall: This is my first Fat Head's Brewery & Saloon beer. I find that this is a very traditional-style example of Marzen that could rival German versions for quality.

From the website:
Imported German malts give this modern Festbier a subtle sweetness. Lighter in body than a Marzen and deep gold in color with aromas of toasted grains. Crisp, crackery malt flavor balanced by German noble hop flavor and aroma. Smooth and highly drinkable.

HOPS: GERMAN TRADITIONAL, SPALT
MALT: LIGHT MUNICH, DARK MUNICH, PALE ROW 2
YEAST: HOUSE LAGER
BEGINNING GRAVITY: 13.0 PLATO
ENDING GRAVITY: 2,6 PLATO

Poured into a narrow pint glass: color is copper, transparent, head is off white and presents 1 finger thick, head dissipates to thin solid top with spotty lacing on the glass sides.

Smell is lighter toasted malt, hint of caramel, some crackers, like grape nut, noble grassy hops.

Taste is more toasted malt, caramel, crackers, grapenuts, grassy and slighty floral noble hops; slight carbonic bite.

Mouthfeel is moderate carbonation, moderate sweetness, moderate bitterness/carbonic quality.

Overall a very solid fest bier/marzen/oktoberfest with slightly carbonic feel/flavor.

12 ounce can poured into a tulip glass. Canned on 7/21/22, so fresh enough.

L---Crystal clear, coppery/amber color. Mild head faded quickly to a ring and left nice lacing.

S---Grains & cracker. Some balancing hops.

T---Follows the nose.

F---Medium bodied with good carbonation.

O---A nice one. Seems like a proper fest bier.

Fat head should probably stick to IPAs and Imperial stouts. This isn’t their best effort. It’s overly carbonated doesn’t smell like an Oktoberfest. It doesn’t taste bad but I can’t figure out its angle. It’s fairly smooth but doesn’t resemble an Oktoberfest in my opinion. It looks the part but is watery. Not a fan.

This is also really solid and satisfies all the right notes on the pallet but unfortunately still doesn't super stand out to me amongst others I've tried. I will say however I don't think I've ever tried a bad beer from Fat Heads not even close to bad

Crackers, grains and a bit of hop with a smooth finish. Lacks the heft and richness that I like in a Marzen, so I’d classify as a festbier. A solid beer regardless of its classification.

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a copper color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is mild, some toasted malts. Taste is toasted malts, bready, refreshing but a bit on the mild side. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a decent beer, but not up to the standards of this fine brewery.
