The last time someone offered me "groovy juice" was in the heat of initiation week at Alpha Kappa Sigma back in '85 (Spoiler alert: it was cow semen). So needless to say, when my good friend Queseph Robinette asked me "Can I interest you in a Fat Head's Groovy Juice?" I responded "How did you get into my house and why are you wearing a trench coat?" To my relief, he pulls out a 4-pack of Groovy Juice IPA and pours me a glass of the thick cloudy liquid (my PTSD kicks in). The color reminds me of the shag carpet in my RV: a vibrant orange. The taste and smell, with its notes of mango and marijuana, transports me into a Grateful Dead concert circa 1982. While I'm blissfully enjoying this brew from the gods, good ol Q (who is reaching near lethal levels of drunk) flings himself into a rogue woodchipper. Come to think of it, he probably wasn't even drunk, but rather zoinked out on some high-quality acid.

Poured into a tall clear pint glass. Appearance is hazy golden with more than a finger's worth of fluffy white head. Good retention and lacing.

Aroma is pretty faint, but I'm smelling mint, tangerine, pineapple, orange, mango, and melon.

Tast: mint, tangerine, red grapefruit, agave, biscuit, mango, melon, and pineapple.

Body is medium-light.

Nice orange color with a white head and nice lacing. The nose was fruity. Taste was just ok. The aftertaste gives way to a little bitterness. Overall good beer.

Largely built on the traditional bitter and dry IPA, Fat Head's is grooving to a brand new taste, one that's juicier, more rounded and fruitier to celebrate all the best character of Citra, Mosaic and Azacca hops. Now this is how you get your groove back.

Pale gold and a shade off of matte, the frothy and creamy ale simply radiates with citrus, tropical, herbal and berry-like scents with a hint of stone fruit. Its pillowy malt flavors sooth the early palate with a creamy pastry-like breadiness, light agave and honeysuckle.

Washing the middle palate with a bounty of hop flavors, a robust fruit medley of tangerine, red grapefruit and lime seem branch-ripe and succulent while a racy tropical array of passionfruit, mango and papaya tease with fruit punch. A hint of peach, pepper and tea come in late and largely frame the beer's final impressions.

Medium bodied, creamy and trending malty-dry, Groovy Juice is hitting all the hoppy buttons by finishing pleasantly sprucy, grassy and with a botanical cannabis bite that extends into a dank, resinous and peppery aftertaste.

A - Pours dirty orange, hazy to the point of near opacity, with a big fluffy white head, and moderate lacing.

S - Nose is quiet, tropical and citrus fruit notes, with mild hop dankness beneath.

T - The flavor explodes in tropical fruit, mango and passion fruit, a bit of grapefruit pith and zest, and a moderate hit of bitterness connects fading quickly through the close.

M - Moderate weight and mild carbonation, with a soft feel and a delicate finish.

O - A very nice NE IPA experience (are you experienced?) and quite delicious.

Had this on 2020-12-18 near Pittsburgh, PA from a fresh 12oz can

A - Hazy golden-orange with a 2-finger white head that sticks around leaving good lace

S - Mint, tangerine, grassy and mildly dank

T - Sweet tangerine, biscuit, herbal and pine bitterness that sticks around but is Pale Ale mild in the finish (not aggressive). Just a hint of orange baby aspirin.

M - Medium body and carbonation. Dries nicely.

O - Leans towards the NEIPA style but not so far as to hide Matt's West Coast roots. I'll have it again.

I think this is much better than the handful of reviews ... Smells terrific, looks great and tastes "groovy" ... Only criticism might be the feel/aftertaste ... But still a big thumbs up

Deep orange in color with murky, unfiltered appearance. Poured with a tall, billowy, white foam with medium retention. Sweet, over-ripe citrus fruit aromas, with notes of fresh orange peel and malt. Medium bodied with medium light carbonation. Soft, smooth feel followed by expanding boozy warmth. Fruity and citrus flavors with a solid malty base. Medium piney hop bitterness in the middle that slowly tapers to the end. Finished with a light citrus note, malt and mellow, lingering pine hop bitterness. Mellow fruitiness and a pleasant piney bitterness along with soft easy feel.

L: Hazy, orange juice colored, fat layer of lacing.

S: Citrusy east coast/NE style IPA. Pineapple, orange, mango.

T: High IBU. Orange and orange peel. Once my palate adjusted, I began picking up lemon and grassy notes.

F: Juicy with a slightly resiny finish.

O: Solid pick. Great price. Can't go wrong.

I got a 4pck of this beer from a Convenience Store just down the road from my Sista-in-law's in Painesville Ohio. It poured a hazy orangish with white head that is not leaving much lace. The scent had dank citrus fruit notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with citrus fruit presence. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall its a solid beer.

12 FL. OZ. can
Served in a stemless wine glass

This beer pours a light shade of orange and is turbid. It is topped with a couple inches of beige head that leaves nice lacing.

The smell is melon, orange, and light pine.

The taste is orange and orange peel with a light pine finish. There is some grapefruit in the aftertaste.

Medium bodied with a filtered orange juice-like mouthfeel.

It is pretty good. Fatheads does little wrong when it comes to hops forward beers.

Look: Hazy yellow with a short-lived head. Foamy cap lasts. Visible carbonation (in strong light) Lacing is plentiful.
Smell: Orange pith and tangerine, a little red grapefruit.
Taste: Sweet on the tip of the tongue then pithy citrus and fruity; pineapple, melon, mango. Taste becomes bitter with some sour or maybe tangy. The flavor benefits from small sips.
Feel: Medium mouthfeel, plenty of prickly carbonation.
Overall: A good beer, not a great beer. Though it's not (IMHO) Fat Head's best it is still worthy and I enjoyed it enough to buy it again.

It seems like most of the AIPA's are New England style lately. Or is it me. That's OK, it's just so many are really dry and some are a little harsh going down. This one is a little less New Englandy. And it is a great sample, only a few days old.

It pours the usual gadget cloudy - perhaps faked (?) with nice head. The aroma warms up to a hoppy skunk. The taste is a bit more malty than usual. It has a huge hops twang behind some sweetness. The mouthfeel is not harsh, it is mushy, with little boozy or other nasty after effects. They could use this a base for a double New England IPA - I could take more sweetness and more alcohol! But it is a complete brew as is, and ...

Highly recommended.

Canned on 5/5/20. 12oz can poured into a tulip. Pours a hazy golden; fluffy off-white head that falls leaving great thick retention and sticky frothy lacing. The aromas are on the tropical side. Hints of pineapple and coconut. Some lemon. Some crackers and fresh bread. Malts are there. The flavors basically follow the nose. More pineapple and coconut. Hints of grapefruit. Lots of fresh grass. Hints of black pepper. Moderate bitterness. Malts do their thing. Finishes juicy. Alcohol goes unnoticed for the most part. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with moderate to active carbonation. It's sharp, fluffy and smooth.

This is a solid "New England IPA". It's basically what you would expect from the style. It might not be anything super crazy, but it's not bad at all.

12oz can poured into a mason jar.

Cloudy orange color with a 3 finger head that recedes into a white film. Small traces of lacing.

Smells of unsweetened orange juice and grapefruit juice. Aroma is quite weak.

Taste follows the nose with citrus and faint grapefruit rind. Finish is medium bitter. No alcohol detected.

Mouthfeel is medium with low carbonation. Very juice like.

I really liked their last hazy release but this one is quite simple and leaves me wanting more. It’s good but I expect better from Fat heads.
