Style: Tripel

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Lately it occurs to me what a long, strange trip it's been. This brew has a deep golden color with spicy phenolics, fruity notes, yeast and clove in the nose. Rich mouthfeel with complex fruity, yeasty flavors and hints of clove with just the right amount of hop bitterness and a slightly sweet finish. Drink up do-dah man.

Bottled on 1/11/17. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours golden with great clarity and transparency, but there's some minor sediment/floaties; bubbles racing upwards with a white head that quickly falls leaving nice retention and lacing. The aromas are malt forward along with some yeast. Hints of banana and bubblegum. Some pear aromas. The flavors basically follow the nose. Solid malt backbone. The yeasts do their thing giving this one a sweetness, but there's a subtle bitterness to balance out everything. Some pine and fresh grass in the mix. Subtle hints of clove. Mild spiciness. Subtle warmth in the finish. Some alcohol notes, but nothing crazy or over the top. Mouthfeel is full-bodied with moderate to active carbonation. It's very fluffy and creamy. It's ultimately smooth, but makes for a nice sipper.

This is a solid tripel. It might not be my new personal favorite example of the style, but it's enjoyable and fun to drink.

My first Fat Head's! A really nice Tripel. Almost crystal clear, deep gold with just a slight head. Sweet malty, fruity, and yeast. Just what you would expect, Taste is true to the style, very nice carbonation and crispness. Alcohol is well hidden, A bit of hops at the finish. I like this, will definitely keep some on hand.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass. Beautiful golden clear color. Very fruity aroma, smells of bananas, honey, spices, a little floral smell as well. A crisp feel with good amount of carbonation. The tastes of spice, bananas, a little fruity in my opinion but overall a good taste. Overall a decent Belgian Tripel worth giving a try. Pretty strong beer at 9.5%

Thanks to nollie77 for this 12 oz. bottle that looks like it went through a ’Dead encampment. Bottled 1/11/17 - I had no idea Fat Head’s made a Tripel.

The pour looks more or less like their IPAs - clear golden, but with soapy, filmy bubbles rather than a head. Smells like a hefe - bubblegum, cloves, sugar. Not bad.

Head Trip is what you’d call ‘standard’. You know - candied sweetness, bit of banana, pear, but with an Americanized bitterness (from overhopping?) that clashes with your basic tripel. Heavy yeast mid-temp along with a hard alcohol kick. I split this with my wife & six ounces is plenty.

Heads Hunters makes some of the finest hoppy beers in the Midwest, but this would be routine if it weren’t over-hopped. Barely mediocre & uninteresting.

A very good triple. Beautiful color and up front flavor. Heavy on the hops for a Belgium but any IPA lover will find it enjoyable. I bet it would be even better off the tap.

I have had a lot of different Fat Heads this week. ALL outstanding. I had another bottle of this maybe 10 days ago and like now, it was the real deal.

This thing is nice looking and very odoriffic. The taste is prototypical. A little on the boozy side. But outstanding. Now, no waiting needed. I'm not sure why that is. This style usually needs to sit a while longer. I highly recommend drinking this.

It features a good amount of the clove & phenol spiciness that is the hallmark of the Belgian styl mixed with a little orange rind and pale malt, but it lacks that crisp & clean profile the best of them have. It's too oily and slick.

** Revision 2/17/17**

Pours beautifully with great carbonation, color and head. Aroma is light and has lots of cracker malt along with faint clove and fruity esther. Taste has a riper phenol flavor than I remember with more banana and sweetness. Phenol is definitely less spicey and more tropical vine fruit, and the malt does add a nice counterbalance with some cracked wheat flavor. Mouthfeel still kinda oily and heavy. Solid beer but nothing amazing.

Poured from a growler into a tulip
A: Solid orange with a lingering one-finger head
S: Bread, Belgian yeast, malts and banana
T: Sweet, a bit hot.Bubblegum, banana, sweet malt, Belgian yeast
M: Quite sweet with noticeable alcohol
O: On one hand tastes true to the style but I'm having trouble finishing the glass. Would be far better with the alcohol toned down a couple of points
