On tap at Fat Heads Pgh.

A: Pours a clear dark amber color that is nice an brown in the middle with some lighter orangish and reddish hues on the edges. Provides a very small off white foam head that dissipates to a film. Very minimal lacing.

S: As it warms it gets better, but it is still not as potent as you would expect. There are hints of brown sugar, caramel and dark fruit. The main smell here is the alcohol. It is inviting though.

T: Starts off with a thick coating of brown sugar and caramel. Very sweet but not over the top sweet. In the middle the dark fruits such as plums and raisins comes to the fore front. On the backend, there is more brown sugar and caramel along with a slight hint of alcohol.

M: Leaves a thick and sweet taste on the palate. Good carbonation for this full style beer.

O: This was a tasty Beligan Strong Dark Ale. Ample amounts of malt sweetness. Definitely worth a try if you see it in Pgh or Cleveland.

I admit I'm not a huge fan of these big ass Belgian beers. But this is quite good. Lots of dark fruits and yeast and alcohol. Very big. A sipper for sure.

In my opinion this is just not a good example of the style. Doesn't much resemble a Belgian . . . An American take at that. Not even in the nose. Color is nice though, has a pretty ruby hue to it which is this beers highlight. Flavors of cherries and winter spices. Very boozy. Overall an average take on the style with a horrible name.

This is a nice Belgian Dark Ale. It pours a dark clear amber with thin white head and no lace. The scent and taste are typical of most Belgian darks....nothing notable outside that. The mouthfeel is fuller in body with smooth carbonation. Overall this is a solid offering and worth the try.

12 oz. bottle poured into a snifter

Pours opaque cola brown with some bright garnet highlights. One finger of off white head quickly dissipates. Aroma is comprised of the usual suspects for a Belgian dark, albeit a bit muted. Raisin, fig , plum, licorice and little spicy yeast.

Taste is a smooth medley of the aforementioned nose. Nothing is nearly as prominent as would be expected in an authentic Belgian dark. More sweet raisin and fig than anything else, and a bit of belgian yeast, but again, it's all a bit muted. That being said, there's nothing remotely offensive and it's as smooth as any aspiring pimp could hope to be.

Overall, the only complaint would be that the flavor profile is a bit tame for the style. Extremely drinkable for the abv, and I'll have no issues finishing my 4-pack.

From the great brewers from Fat Head's via Jungle Jim's in a growler
and served in a snifter. This fine Belgian style strong pours a deep moderately
clear red tinged brown color with a nice head of white foam that settles to a thick
ring, thin light layer, and nice light lacing. Nose of moderate booze, brown sugars,
raisin bread, and dark cherries. Flavors exceed the nose with brown sugars and
lightly warming booze soaked in raisin breads with notes of dark cherry and light
cranberry notes. Very nice mouth feel; smooth, rich, warming, lightly dry, and
with modest carbonation. Overall a fantastic brew from a great Ohio brewer.

Cheers!
