Everything a beer enthusiast should expect and enjoy about a coffee forward stout . . . that's Bean me up in a nutshell. Also really appreciate the fact that this a 6.5% beer and able to drink a couple of these hefty stouts without being hammered. This one pours black of course. Aromas are coffee, chocolate and maybe some subtle hints of vanilla. Taste is the same. As another reviewer has already mentioned, this isn't as big and bold as say Peche Mortel but it is still very bold and thick.

Brewers notes:
This silky stout is finished with Caribou Coffee's Lacuna Blend dark roast coffee. A nose of fresh brewed coffee, roasted malt, chocolate and hops. Creamy with flavors of bitter dark roast coffee & roasted malt. Hints of chocolate and even some vanilla come through almost cappuccino-like. Finishes clean and dry with some hop bitterness.

16oz pour, served in an English Style pint glass

A - served with a quarter inch of loose khaki colored foam. the beer is *very* dark brown, ruby highlights on the edges held up to light. random spotty lacing through the drink.

S - coffee dominated, creamed sweet fresh dark roast. dark chocolate, lightly roasted malt and a light nuttyness bring some sweetness. some earthy hops finish it out.

T - coffee comes through very nicely, extremely fresh and bitter yet balanced with some sweetness, a slight vanilla cream...like a great instant coffee powder which works great in a beer. dark roasted malts add another layer of bitterness. very yummy.

M - a little thin on the body, and carbonation is a tad hot...this detracts from an otherwise superb stout. a tad creamy, finishes a bit clean with some lingering coffee bitterness.

D - very nice, yet another impressive Fat Head's brew...one sided and heavy on the coffee but in a great way, only hampered by a mouthfeel that is a bit weak. give me some for breakfast (or dessert) anyday.

16oz pour in a shaker pint glass at South Park Tavern:

Appearance: Black with a 1/4" thick dark tan head. Plenty of fine persistent lacing in strands and islands.

Smell: Chocolate, roasted malts, and ground up espresso beans.

Taste: The first hit of flavor is like biting into a dark roast coffee bean, then there is a definite sweetness that follows, ending with roasted malts and a solid bitter note. Some burnt sugar flavors in there as well. The sweet hit nicely complements the coffee flavor up front.

Mouthfeel: Nicely thick and dead on for a stout. A bit chewy, with something of a dry finish, but some lingering stickiness on the teeth.

Overall / Drinkability: A very nice stout and quite drinkable. I think I could have had another of these if I had the time. Very good by itself and paired nicely with the Philly cheesesteak pizza that I got at South Park Tavern. A very good coffee stout.

32oz growler filled at Save-On Craft Beer in Mentor, Ohio

Growler poured into a tulip. Pours black with barely any light getting through; light khaki head that fades leaving decent retention and lacing. The aromas are full of roasted coffee. The coffee clearly dominates. Hints of chocolate and vanilla as well. The flavors follow the nose. Tons of strong roasted coffee. Espresso like. Lots of vanilla, especially in the finish. Solid bitterness, but there's a nice sweetness as well. The coffee clearly steals the show. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is on the lighter side of full-bodied. Moderate carbonation and smooth, but feels thin at times. Fun to drink.

This is a very nice coffee stout. They let the coffee shine. Well crafted and very enjoyable. Well done.
