Pours a dark reddish color with a white head that recedes to a ring. Aroma of mildly sweet malts and fruit. A bit toasty in the nose as well from hefty malt additions.
In the taste, sweet malts, citrusy hops and mildly spicy rye. Everything works well together and there is little hint of alcohol. Medium bodied, well carbonated feel.

Overall, this is a nice big rye beer, with more emphasis on hops than your typical imperial rye. Very agreeable and drinkable. Good stuff.

One good finger of dense foam caps a hazy rust-colored brew. Has an allure about it.

I smell Simcoe stylings with dank hop resin and citrus. Perhaps, there's a hint of spiciness (rye), also. Big dose of pine wood, clover, and rigorous grain toasting. Hints of peach and tropicalia, but that aroma is a backdrop.

Spicy bitterness with a loud first movement. Wily hops with a pine burst, woody dryness, punchy malt toast, girthy dank citrus, and tree bark earthiness. Has a burnt finish.

Smoother than expected. Big gapingly wet body with a carb crunch that goes up and beyond general tolerability. A mouthfeel wipeout.

A good imperial red ale, if they're your thing.

Had this on tap at Pizza Port – Carlsbad

One of many treats from Matt Cole's trip to SD no doubt

Fat Heads Bonehead Red Rye – 8.2%ABV

A: Pours a deep caramel amber color equipped with a thin khaki tan head and some tracked lacing.

S: Has a caramel malted sweetness to the nose. Not a whole lot of aroma going on otherwise. Hard to pick up some faint floral hops. Mostly caramelized malts though.

T: Very smooth and slightly sweet toasty toffee malt base. Nice hoppy citrus and floral notes. Soft bitterness with a backend pucker contributed to some decent dry hop here. Rye is not so much in the way of spice but seems to be doing great things for the mouthfeel. Very smooth and well balanced at 8.2% ABV. Alcohol is barely detectable. Really well constructed and quite enjoyable.

M: A Medium to heavier bodied ale that is contradicted by a very smooth and creamy texture. Real light and frothy across the palate. Slight dry and lighter lift in the finish.

D: Traditional Amber flavors with the use of some toastier Crystal malts. But with some nice late hop adds and the Rye providing a little something extra. Not much in the way of aroma here but great mouthfeel and great balance of flavors.

Would recommend.
