A three finger high brownbeige head that leaves a lot of lacing.

Nose: vanilla, dark bread, cream, roasted malt, licorice, dark chocolate and nuts.

Taste: Dark fruit, licorice, brown sugar, coffe, roasted malt and hops. Full body with a smooth taste.

A small amount of carbonate. Just right! This is a great beer!

330ml bottle, 2012 edition. Darkbrown with som deep red colours. Floral hops, chocolate, dried plums, dark bread, brown sugar, roasted malt, espresso, honey, spices, licorice. Bitter aftertaste with citrus, orang peel and a hint of sweetness. Nice full body that suits well with the high alcohol percentage. One of the better IP’s out there.

A - Near black, nice tan 1/4 inch head, stays for some time. Lots of cling lace.

S - Perhaps too cold, but very subdued. Cocoa is there, maybe hint of mocha.

T - Big flavor. Creamy cocoa, a little hot but not in a bad way.

M - Very creamy, wonderful balance. Good carb.

D - Perfect for a cold winter night.

A: Pitch black with some red tones when lit up. Slightly hazy. The foam is thick, dense and light brown. It sinks away rather slowly, leaving rich lacings.

S: Intense, with hints of chocolate and coffee. Lots of molasses, raw sugar and some liquorice. Subtle hints of dark rum and citrus fruits. The smell finishes with hoppy aromas and some red wine.

T: Full-bodied with a fine sweetness. Coffee and cocoa. Some grassy hop aromas. Roasted malt, honey. Molasses, some soy sauce and a small hint of veal stock. Alcohol is present. The aftertaste is long, bitter and filled with luxurious cocoa.

M: Nearly no carbonation. The alcohol is clearly noticable. Nice bitterness.

O: This is a damn good beer. Luckily I've got another 6 bottles saved.

A: This beer pours pitch black with a large brown thich creamy head. Dissipation is slow and leaves rich lacings.

S: Sweet rich roasted, slightly smoked malt. Vanilla, chocolate and strong black coffee. Dark dried fruits.

T: Much like the smell. More bitter notes.

M: Aftertaste is long and bitter - nice. Body is full and carbonation is moderate.

D: This must be the best beer from Mohawk yet!

The smell is somewhat sweet with heavily roasted malty flavours. Sour hints and a distinct note of black coffee. Fruit candy, unrefined sugar, caramel. The bitter notes are quite powerful with some grassy notes and a hint of oranges. Some alcohol in the background.

The colour is jet black; the finger thick warm brown head sinks quickly leaving a fine ring and some lacing.

The taste is as complex as one could ask for: Coffee, bitter hops, roasted malts, chocolate deserts, dry woody notes, some smooth sweetness, dried apples, preserved cherries and plums, Madeira wine... The aftertaste seems to last forever. It is drier with lots of roasted malts with some sour flavours, a slowly growing bitterness and a grassy-hoppy flavour in the finish.

The carbonation is very mild, the small bubbles soft. The liquid is very smooth and a bit sticky, almost thick.

If it had just a little more sweetness, this would have gotten a solid 5.

The beer is very dark brown, could go for black, a tan head that dissipates rather quickly leaving some lumps, and much lacing. Some curtains.

The smell is roasted stuff, bread, grain, coffee beans. But sweet dried fruits are there as well, predominantly raisins and figs.

Staring very sweet, brown sugar in dark syrup, malt, like burned toast, a bit smoky, licorice and very strong coffee.

Little carbonation, huge body, a smooth syrup feeling. A bit oily and a bitter finish.

This is very good, and I have hopes that it will improve if stored.

A - Nothing extraordinary. Deep brown color, light latte-colored head which fades fairly quickly, leaving some sticky lacing.

S - Awesome. Tons of rich molasses and brown sugar mixed with cold espresso and dark fruits, with a pleasantly boozy undertone.

T - Even more awesome. A complex balance of malty sweetness, hoppy bitterness and sour fruits. The high alcohol is completely hidden by a rich cascade of muscovado sugar, coffee, dark chocolate, pumpernickel bread and dark sour fruits. It combines many of the best characteristics of American and British porters/stouts into one beer.

M - About what you'd expect from an imperial stout. As with everthing else about this beer, the keyword is balance.

D - Extraordinary, especially considering the nearly 10% alcohol content. I've tried few beers that offered so much flavor and complexity while going down so easy.

I haven't been especially impressed by Mohawk's previous offerings, but this one is a masterpiece, and it can only get better with age.
