Vintage 2012.

The colour is almost black with a brown edge. The low head is beige, it sinks slowly down leaving no lacing on the glass.

The smell is amazingly fresh with herbal hops, roasted/burned malt and some dark chocolate. Hints of cream, ripe bananas and cocoa.

The taste is smooth with a passing clean bitterness. Distinct chocolate flavours, clean sweetness and some old-fashioned fruit candy. Medium body. The aftertaste is rather dry with chocolate, coffee and nut cream. Alcohol, cocoa and prunes in the background. The rather short finish is balanced with chocolate chip cookies, liquorice drops a hint of olive oil.

The carbonation is mild, the many small bubbles are short-lived. The liquid is semi-smooth.

Surprisingly fresh and balanced after almost six years. A bit light here and there and not very long-lasting, it is a very tasty beer.

A little bit hazy, dark brown to black. A three finger high beige-brown, fluffy head that leaves a lot of lacing on the #Spigelau Stout Glass.

Nose: Roasted malt, a lot of coffee grain, nuts, molasses, dried fruit, raisin, cocoa and ash.
Taste: Caramel malt, sweet chocolate, vanilla, dark fruit, coffee and a little hint of oak.
Body: Medium to full body. Light carbonated. GReat bitterness. Complex structure. Smooth and soft.

I've had this "christmasbeer" several years now and I just say: A beatiful beer!

A: Pour is dark brown, almost black. The medium tall brown head is very compact and thick. Nice lacings.

S: Sweet rich dark malt, hard roasted almost burned. Dark dried fruits, not too sweet. Vanilla notes. Strong black coffee and dark chocolate. Complex.

T: Again hard roast, bone dry. But sweetness lures in the back; dark dried fruits. Vanilla is obvious. Strong espresso and cacao. Some nuts. Still complex.

M: Aftertaste is longer than I expects from a RIS, bone dry and bitter. Body is full and quite smooth, while the carbonation is very mild but still present. The high ABV is well hidden, the only thing that gives it away is a warmth in the chest, while drinking.

O: Nice and complex. The alcohol is well hidden.
