Small 10 oz. glass sampled at River Port, 2.20.11.

Clear copper amber body, no visible carbonation, under 1/2 finger creamy white head, quick dissipation, above average lacing. Nose features roasted malt, quite a bit of caramel sweetness, some crystal, flowery hops subsumed by huge malt bill. Taste is on the sweet side with some toasted bready malt, no bitterness on back end, fairly sweet. Mouthfeel is medium, some effervescence, a bit sticky, quite a bit of alcohol heat. The brewer informed me he'll be barrel aging the last of this in a local whiskey barrel for a year, so I guess I'll need to go back and try that out. Not part of regular beer offerings, the brewer does something special every 100 batches, and while the ABV is not for the uninitiated, I thought this was pretty close to style. Worth a try for barleywine fans.
