Rather dark color for an IPA. Slight off-white head.

Nose is slightly hoppy with some rather odd off-notes. The best I can compare it to is a rotten, berry perfume infused urinal cake. Odd, and not pleasant.

The taste has some brown sugar and dried fruits backing as the malt profile. Some bitterness. Odd finish.

Overall, this beer is odd. It has too much off about it and definitely doesn't amount to a good beer. Avoid this beer.

Edit: Thinking more, the aroma is simply very vegetal with lots of tomato notes (and that is not a good thing in this case).

I was surprised to find bottles from Krash Brewery at Whole Foods in Long Beach. I picked up the KaHopper Ale hoping the quality had improved since my previous experiences with the brewery on the hefeweizen and maibock.

Pours a rich mahogony, a few shades deeper than copper, and a touch dark for an IPA. Huge creamy tan head is a also curiously dark, but stays perched there for a long long time. There is a weakness in lacing however, as this doesn't seem to stick. It is quite peculiar, as the foam actually breaks into chunks on top in a way I have never quite witnessed.

Aromas of kalamata olives, pear, and citrus are present. The olive notes dominate, and this is not a note I want in beer, period. Krash Brewing, thou hast forsaken me again. Taste of olives, citrus, and pear with an acrid burnt cookie and garden hose finish. Feel is medium with a slight creaminess to the carbonation, but it is all overpowered by a drying sensation that accompanies the burnt rubber finish.

Every beer I have tasted from Krash has been squarely bad, and this is no exception. Hate to say it about a local brewery, but what is going on here?

Picked this beer up at Wholefoods in Tustin a week ago.

A - Very Dark Amber color with a finger of Off-White head that fades slowly.

S - Smells of Citrus(Orange) Pineapple, Malt sweetness(like a Barleywine) and a little Pine.

T - Tastes of Orange, Grapefruit, and Peach. Slight bitter backbone and with heavy malts.

M - Medium body with good carbonation.

D - Drinkability is very good and similar in profile to a dark hoppy Barleywine. At little too much as far as the bitter hoping goes.
