My favorite of the bunch that I tried on my first trip in to the bier hall. I felt it was a great example of the style and extremely refreshing espcecially in the summer months. I went with the half liter. Appears clouded bright orange golden with a frothing white head filled perfectly to the fill line to equal 0.5l on the side of my weizen glass it was served in with the house logo. Aromatics banana clove with a touch of chalky bubblegum notes flowing strong. Slight herbal nose barely comes through. Flavor the chalky note came out with a powdered yeast cake heaviness, enough fruitiness from the esters balanced it out. Citrus, bubblegum, banana, and clove rounded it out. Mouthfeel was light to medium bodied with effervescent bubbly carbontion suitable for the style. Drinkability overall was excellent great hefe, up there with the likes of Penn Weizen as far as "American brewed" versions go.

Draft offering at the Pittsburgh location served in a weizen glass. The brew appears a clouded yellow color with a thick, dense white cap that perists throughout the experience. It leaves some spotty lace on the glass with patches when swirled.

The aroma is a banana bomb with accenting notes of bubblegum and clove spice coming in secondary. There is some overall wheaty grain touches to this but the overall feel of the nose comes primarily from the yeast and in a very pleasant way.

The taste is sweet with a wheat and fresh grain backing. Spice like clove, bubblegum and banana are all present. This is exactly what I have come to expect of a well made hefeweizen and boy does this deliver with beautiful balance as complexity mostly driven by the yeast.

This is a light bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. It is crisp and clean and super easy drinking. If I didnt have places to me, I could have drank several of these but opted for one and done. Looking forward to having this again next trip.

Pours a light hazed gold. Heady white topping and plenty of lace. Aroma of banana and clove, along with perfumey noble hops. In the flavor, a good bit of banana, clove, and herbal hops. Nice fresh flavors, even, clean finish, small malty sweetness. Medium bodied feel, well carbonated. Overall, a solid hefeweizen, good and fresh tasting.

Served on-tap at Pittsburgh's Hofbräuhaus.

A: The weizen was served in the appropriate glass, tall and luxurious. The head was sizeable, nearly cascading out of the glass and consuming half a finger below the 0.5L notch (those bastards). Plenty of rich foam laced around the glass.

S: The nose is heavy with banana and clove. Wheaty tartness is missing, replaced by a full barley malt presence. Very appetizing.

T: I really dig this beer, refreshing and not too strong. Banana and clove flavors are sweet and upfront, thanks to the yeast. They are not cloying but well-suited to the ale. Wheat is present but it doesn't shake things up. Grains have a toasted cereal flavor. The flavor is a spot-on hefe that did get a little heavy at times.

M: Clove and banana make this a great respite on a hot day. The tartness of the wheat is a good compliment to the yeast.

D: I felt pretty full after drinking half a liter, but I really liked it. I bought a six pack to go and am sipping on one now.

Another beer I enjoyed recently at the Hofbräu !

A - Pours a hazy copper brown with a hefty amount of head as the bartender often does!

S - Mild banana peel, orange zest, clove, and mild grain on the nose.

T - Like a Weizenbock light it came off with mild banana and clove with a orange hoppy zest that finishes bitter with a sort of bread yeast.

M - Light and crisp. Overall very drinkable.

D - I liked this over the Dunkel (which was only .1% higher in ABV) and it was just teeming with flavor! A must for any visit to the brew pub!

Pours a cloudy yellow to orange-ish color with a white head. In the aroma, dry clove and banana. In the taste, dry banana fruitiness and clove spice, with just a hint of sulfur. A spice bite and medium bodied mouthfeel, with a semi dry clove like spice in the aftertaste. Nice flavor, nice dryness, but the sulfur kind of threw me a bit.

Draught @ Brewhouse: This one poured a cloudy to opaque straw yellow color. There was a large white head on it. It left a good amount of lacing. The nose was nice, but a little light. There was wheat, clove and a hint of lemon. The taste is good. Wheat, clove, a touch of banana and citrus. Decent body. A solid hefe.

A-Hazy golden tinted orange with a medium white head that reduced to a thin cap and left nice lace.

S-Bubblegum and banana up front with a healthy dose of clove supporting in the background. Nicely aromatic.

T-Big bubblegum and banana with light clove notes. a very full-flavoured and of course traditional hefe. A fresh as fresh can be....since it comes from the room next door. I usually prefer a bit of lemon zing in my hefe and this barley has any at all...but somehow this one works for me.

M-Medium-light, crisp, long lasting flavour--burping up bubblegum along the way!

D-Wow! Are you kidding? On a hot summer day in Da' Burgh sitting along the Mon in the biergarten this brew is about a perfect as a sessionable one liter slammer as you can get! Too bad I had this on a cold and blustery early April day! Oh well, next time!

A cloudy yellow body with a big, rocky white head. Has some pretty good lacing also.

The smell has loads of banana with a little bit of pepper, bubble gum, and wheat.

The taste is classic hefeweizen. Lots of banana followed by some bubble gum and just a touch of clove. Some good wheat flavors back it up.

Mouthfeel is pretty lively in carbonation with a medium body that is just creamy enough.

Another very drinkable beer from the Hofbrauhaus, overall a pretty good hefeweizen.

A-cloudy yellow with a thick off white head that stays

S-mmm a strong scent of banana and wheat and some spices. pretty decent!

T-comes in with a powerful hit of spice and long lasting banana. its definitely a lighter beer, but it is good. there seems to be a hint of cloves and grains in there too with the after-taste.

M-creamy medium carbonation with a fine dry finish

D-the more i had, the more this plastic taste started to develop. the carbonation also seems to lose its strength. it was still enjoyable the whole way down though!
