Visited on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Place is located in Southside works. No parking lot on premises, but plenty of parking areas available nearby.
Atmosphere: Seated at bar in the main dining hall, not as big as I thought it would be. Place was busy but not overwhelming. Guy in Lederhosen playing the accordion and encouraging German sing alongs up on stage. They also have another separate room to the right as well as seating outside which would be nice in the summer.
Quality/Selection: 5 beers; 4 regulars and 1 seasonal. Had the BergBock which was the seasonal. Description of this beer was as a Maibock and the style was spot on. Crisp, smooth with just a touch of sweetness to it. Could drink many of these. Also tried the Hefe and Dunkle which were also spot on style wise. If you are not into German beer then you will be disappointed though the light offering should satifsfy most BMC drinkers.
Service was ok; sat at the bar and did speak with Barmaid who has been there since they opened last spring. She said the place gets really packed by 20 something's on Saturdays whose sole intention is to drink heavily and sing. Hmmm...Isn't that the idea?
Value/Food: we did get the sampler which included soft pretzels, sauerkraut balls, fried pickles and potato pancakes. $12.99, not a bad price for a sampler. Food was average at best with the sauerkraut balls being the standout. Could definitely eat a big bowl of those. Would like to come back and try some sausages next time.
Overall: if loud singing with a lot of drunken people is your thing, then this is the place. I really enjoyed the beers and would go back just for that.

My wife and I stopped here on a frigid Monday evening for dinner and beers. Because of the weather the place was not busy at all. To park and go here requires the use of a city parking garage that is a block away. The place has a building style that is reminiscent of Bavaria and has stainless steel beer tanks at the front corner of the building. There is a covered patio, but I neglected to see if it's heated. The interior of the main dining area is much like the famous bier hall in Munich. Most seating is community tables, but there is also some booths along one wall. The bar to one side has seating. The vibe was great as was the service.
There were 6 beers on tap, which smallish number I think is typical of breweries in Germany. We has the Schwarzbier and a Keller Pilsner, both of which are special beers that are not always available. Both were very good. The food was also very good, I think a notch higher than the beers. There is wine available for the non-beer drinkers. This place is probably touristy during warmer weather, but it's worth the visit. Highly recommended if you like German beers and food.

Been here several times many years ago. Revisited during the Steelers/Packers weekend with my wife, son, daughter in law and my 3 grandsons. This place never disappoints, really make you feel like you are Munich, only thing missing is they don't do shotskies anymore because someone sued them. Food is amazing. Beers are very authentic. The selection is limited to the 3-5 beers they have on tap at the moment, but most are pretty good!

Everyday is Oktoberfest here. They have done a great job at replicating as close as possible, the Hofbrau Bierhall experience. It's not the actual Hofbrauhaus feel, but close enough for being in the US. Great Bavarian food, as well as American food offerings, great Hofbrau bier as well as some special offerings that the local brewmasters experiment with. It's always a great time!

Authentic German beer and food in an authentic German atmosphere, without having to go to Germany. For boaters, this is a great spot in the summer time as well with a landing right on the Monongahela River.

During our vacation trip through Pittsburgh, we decided to visit this establishment. Having been to the original in Munich, we had high hopes. Located in a trendy newly-constructed restaurant district, the brewery-restaurant overlooks a river. The place was busy, filled with patrons watching the World Cub semi-finals. We sat outside, which was filled with German oompa music. The beer is, understandably, average. It is mass-market German-fare. Predictable, drinkable, enjoyable, but also boring. The food, though, was incredible. Wonderful German fare, very filling and satisfying. It is a bit pricey, but still worthwhile.

When you can't get to Munich and want to feel like you are, visit the Hofbrauhaus in Pittsburgh. My family visited last weekend and we were all very pleased with the beer, food and service. The beer is brewed
onsite and licensed by the original Haus in Munich. I had the Marzen and Hefewiezen. Both were very fresh and tasty. Most of us had the bratwurst platte with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. The sauerkraut was the best I have ever had. One of our party had the schnitzel, which he really enjoyed. The atmosphere is terrific with the look of a Bavarian beer hall and German music playing. Although too cold to be outside, this place has a veranda and an outdoor beer garden that overlooks the river. A real gem!
Follow-up - Just had lunch on 5/20/17. Dunkel was great and the food was too! . . . weisswurst . . . schnitzel . . . German potato salad . . . pretzels . . . The atmosphere is terrific with the music . . . everyone seems so happy here! Will come back again and again and again!

Been many times and don't think I've had a bad night here. If you go on Thur-Sat night its like a madhouse, but it's all first come first serve in the beer hall area and their bar does a pretty good job getting everyone drinks. I like that they have a regular dining area always open in case you aren't looking for a dance on the tables type night. The selection is limited to the 3-5 beers they have on tap at the moment, but most are pretty good!

This place is great. Everyone is dressed in classic German attire and there is almost always a band on stage playing folk music. It is encouraged to stand on the tables and dance. The biergarten itself makes this place amazing. It is a huge outdoor area with picnic tables along the river front. All the food I have had has been really good as well. The only downfall is that sometimes the servers seem a little too busy to help you and that they don't offer a wide variety of brews.

Never been to germany but German bear Garten is what they are going for. Loud, big portions and passable German beer.

Hofbrauhaus Pittsburgh is hands down, my favorite place in the city to go late on a Friday or Saturday night, get up on those benches and clang those steins together and sing along.
Their hefeweizen is my favorite and pairs great with any of their authentic menu of tasty German gems. When it is nice out, get down to the beer garden and sit along the river and toast the great view and great atmosphere with a large glass of that hefeweizen. The waitstaff is great and make the overall experience a good one, worth braving the South Side traffic.
Did I mention they have great hefeweizen?
