Mata Artesian is a German style Kolsch with a Kiwi twist. A crisp and refreshing light bodied lager, with medium bitterness, gentle carbonation and delicate malt flavour. Mata Artesian is named after the source of water all Mata beers are brewed with.

This is the first time i have ever tried a beer from this brewery so here goes and the ABV is 5.0%,it pours a very pale see thru amber with sparkling carbonation that leaves a whispy one finger head with little lacing, the aroma is very weak for my liking with a feint sweet caramel aroma to it,it has an average mouthfeel with a clean crisp taste of hops, malts, yeast and water but nothing really stands out in this beer to make itself mentionable it really does taste like a blend of these ingredients and not much else but in saying that it is very easy to knock back just wouldnt be hunting it down anytime soon.

Its a pale ale that is brewed to taste like a lager- (I know its crazy but it works)
Appearance- Pale Amber with whispy head caused by the hops. Average lacing and moderate carbonation.
Smell- Floral and slightly herbal hops (bottle says N.Z. Hallertau to be exact) sweet malt backbone
Taste- A typical pale ale with a sweet malt opposed to the restrained hops.
Mouthfeel- Smooth (almost slick) Texture with a clean finish. The hops bitterness is sidelined and does not linger long in your mouth. Very much like a lager.
Drinkability- A moderate carbonation and a unique lager take is very interesting, well worth the flagon on the North Island or the bottle on the South Island.
