Day 2 of 2019 Calendar.

BTW, BeerAdvocate-- This ain't a saison...

Poured into a tulip shaped glass, it is golden-hued with a copious amount of large loose bubbles that soon coalesce into a lingering tight white lace.
The aroma is caramel and yeast, with a sugary perfume.
The taste is full–rounded, with a hint of bitterness on the tongue but finishing sweet but clean. Notes of bread and sugar cookies. It only gets better as it warms.

Pours a clouded yellow color with a froth, big head.

Smells of garden herbs, rich wheat and lighter citrus in an utmost intriguing way.

Has a light mouthfeel with a very vivid carbonation, creating a great refreshment.

Tastes of unripe bananas, wet grass and fresh cut wheat, with a lighter citraic note atop. Turns even more herbal then with a light yeast spiciness to it, adding a pleasant sweet- and softness. Finishes with a metallic and bitter interplay, among soothing wheat and yeast.

Light and almost crisp, with a great hop bitterness going all the way in this.

Bottle: Poured a clear bright golden color ale with a quite large pure white foamy head with light retention and some lacing. Aroma of light citrus and bitter hops with wheat malt and fruity ester is somewhat unique and interesting. Taste was a weird mix between some lightly citrus notes with some light bubblegum wheat malt and some US hops also thrown in the mix. Body was average with good carbonation. Weird mix and not something I would seek on a regular basis but interesting nonetheless.

God head, settles to rim bubbles and fine layer in the center of the glass. Left a single ring of lace. The liquid is a hazy neutral gold.

Smells sweet, almost like Kool-ade. No wheat that I can detect.

Leans to the malt, but there's a notable hop presence. Highly carbonated--spritzy. There's a touch of sourness in the swallow. Mild aftertaste.

Thanks Thorpe, served in a tulip. Beer is yellow, mildly hazy, white head, decent retention, a little lacing, moderate to low carbonation.

Aroma is sweet with some piny / earthy hoppiness in there.

This place likes hops and I like them back for it. Beer is light in body, not very carbonated on the palate and nicely hopped, moderate bitterness on the back, a vegetable garden earthiness in the midpalate probably from a lot of noble hops. Mild fruitiness in this one too, another nice saison.

750ml bottle served in a tulip. Poured a slightly hazy gold with two fingers of big bubbled head. A little citrus and some Belgian spice in the aroma. More Belgian spice in the flavor. Light bodied and dry with a good amount of carbonation. Very easy drinking. Nothing over the top, but a solid, well made beer.

On-tap at Mugs Alehouse, Brooklyn, NY

A: The beer is slightly hazy pale light yellow in color. It poured with a quarter finger high bright white head that died down, leaving a large patch of bubbles in the center and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: There are light aromas of citrus from the Simcoe hops along with notes of peppery spices in the nose.
T: The taste mostly follows the smell, except that the citrus is a little subdued and there are strong notes of Belgian yeast to go along with the notes of peppery spices.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The Simcoe hops in this beer definitely make it interesting and lend a little complexity to the smell and taste.

Platinum with lumpy champagne head.
Subtle and layered nose: lemon peel, flowers, grain and a yeast hit.
Gentle melon and mango with cracker and a bit of hay, a blast of wax, and smooth, even tangerine hops.
Grapefruit peel finish and tingly but mild white pepper linger.
Soft, fizzy, creamy, light.

For starters, not a saison, so don't look for funk. A wheat beer with Belgian yeast but US hops - Simcoe (the most understated I've ever tasted it) + another from Yakima Chief. And the hopping is deft, not the heavy-handedness you often get with US beers. (There's some pineapple, too, but not in a Lagunitas way). It's not up to Brooklyn-Schneider Weiss standard for hoppy wheats, but with the silky feel it makes an easy but complex quaffer.

Another well-integrated, accomplished beer from J-J.

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a pale yellow color with a white head. The aroma is nothing but wheat. The flavor is wheat with a little bit of lemons mixed in. Thin mouthfeel and medium carbonation. A very tasty, easy to drink wheat beer. Not complex, but still enjoyable.

Bottle shared by Thorpe429. Thanks Mike.

The beer is light yellow and fairly hazy with a small white head. The aroma is hop forward with floral and herbal notes. Good flavor, with a blend of hop, herbal, and floral notes. Light bodied with low carbonation. The beer could use a bit more carbonation to enhance the feel and support the overall flavor. Overall, this was drinkable and enjoyable. Easy to get through a snifter of this. Could use some minor improvements and tweaks. Pretty good.

Poured a wheat beer like body with a cloudy yellowish gold and big head and a citric pepper like kick in the aroma with some yeast and some other floral hop notes. Beer is smooth and there is a decent amount of sweetness to it but mostly a citric, earthy hop presence with some spices that goes down easy with the yeast sticking out a little. Easy, crisp finish with a little bit of carbonation and overall a pretty good beer but laid back on the saison aspects as I really don't get any funk/sourness at all (then again, not a traditional wheat beer either).

Pours a hazed amber with thin soapy white head, settles to a thin ring; a few dots on the glass. Smell: nectarine, hay, notes of bubblegum, sweet citrus peel, and herbs. Taste: lemon, sweet orange, herbal and spruce-ish, bubblegum with a doughy back. Low carbonation picks up towards the end of the sip, slick feel but nice drying/sticky nectarine finish. Unlike most of the hoppy and sweet saisons out there, this one works. Bottle has some numbers and gibberish and 30/12/2012. If a couple years old, it's aged well.

$11.99 for a 750ml from Discount in Milwaukee

A: brilliant amber color, clear, some head but not as much as expected
S: medium nose, classic farmhouse, with yeast and spicy, pepper
T: good traditional farmhouse taste, hop bitterness in finish that was not expected, spicy and somewhat subdued probably due to wheat backbone
M: a bit thin and watery, expected more zest and mouthfeel like trad saisons

On tap at Moeder Lambic Fontainas during last week's trip to Belgium. Reviewed from notes.

Served in a Jandrain-Jandrenouille goblet.

Pours a slightly-hazed straw color with a 2-finger white head. Great lacing, of course. The nose has lots of wheat plus a light bit of coriander-type spice and some faint citrus. Very dry and crisp. Flavor adds a bit of light white pepper. Dry and crisp throughout. Hops bring a light floral character. Absolutely fantastic.

750ml bottle with J&J pressure cap.

poured into SP wine stem.

Appearance: This is a sad looking saison. Translucent pale yellow beer. A sparse and thin formed head that pours only to a thin cap of loosey packed bubbles. This is not what a non barrel aged saison should look like.

Smell: It smells like apple juice and a hint of grain. That is it.

Taste: The taste is the same except it is waterdown apple juice. Dare I say that I have drank an american adjunt lager with more flavor than this saison. Unfortunately it is the truth.

Mouthfeel: Super thin body and low level of carbonation. Undercarbed and almost lifeless mouthfeel. Drinkable yes, but nothing makes me really want to drink this.

Overall: What a let down... I had Saison IV by Jandrain-Jandrenouille last month and thought it was very solid. I picked up this bottle since I enjoyed the other saison made by this brewer. I think that the drain will like this beer much more than I will. I think that this must be infected or it has a severe carbonation issue. Either way, I can say this is easily the worst saison that I have ever drank.

First had: on tap at TJ's, Paoli, PA

Mounds of foam flowed from the tap, making a good 5 minutes or more of settling time necessary for a full pour on this one. Eventually served in a tulip glass, pale straw-yellow with a very slight haze, and a small (when presented) white head that reduced to a wisp and left just a tiny bit of lacing on the top of the glass. Aroma was pretty subdued, faint sweetness, spice, and a touch of wheat. Taste was light but nice, crisp and grassy, herbal, a little wet hay, but not too heavy on the funk as you might expect; light notes of peppery spice and citrus zest. Smooth as silk, as far as mouthfeel goes, went down easy and clean; not high alcohol, but it seemed even lower than it was. Not bursting with flavor, but very nice overall nonetheless.
