Zok knows his stuff. An experienced beer judge and award winning crafter, he runs his shop as an homage to homebrewing and beer in general. TRUST in Zok! Of course he wants to make money, but there is no better source for advice and knowledge within hours. He's better than the Web.

Zok is extremely knowledgeable and always willing to take time to explain the brewing process. I have spent over $500 at his shop in the past couple of years with only minor issues. I once bought 12 pounds of Marris Otter that had some bugs in it. I went back to his shop and he replaced all of the grains for free. Because I have spent so much money there, he often just throws in free stuff (PBW, pipe fittings, etc.) for free.

Also, Zok is a registered GABF judge, so bring him a bottle of your homebrew, and he will tell you what you could do to possibly make your next batch better!

My 2 friends and I went to Zok's to purchase a lot of equipment to jump right into all grain home brewing. Paul was very knowledgeable and helped us make good decisions and reassured us on what we were going to buy and do. Some of the stuff he sold us however was not very good.

First he sold us 3 demijohns because we wanted to brew 10 gallons a batch so carboys wouldn't be as useful. He told us he was giving us a deal and sold them to us for 30 dollars each (3 total). Well they are thirty new so he really did not do us any favors. Which is not a big deal but I don't appreciate him lieing to us. They also came with these light blocking plastic pieces that covered the demijohns. They were falling apart so my friend built wooden boxes instead. When we took the plastic off the demijohns we found lots of dead half decayed mice in the bottom of the demijohns covered in their own terds. This was probably part of the deal he was talking about. Also one of the demijohns had a built in valve which ended up leaking and we tried to repair it but unfortunately it only survived one fermentation. So 90$ for 2 demihohns and some dead mice!

Also the two kegs we bought from him to use as pots had leaking welds, which were easy to fix but i don't think that he should charge over 200$ for leaking pots.

Without a doubt very knowledgeable. I would not go there again because of the problems that we encountered. I am not sure if he would have compensated us if we had told him about the problems because we did not go back or inform him. However we have fixed/cleaned all the equipment and have brewed almost 20 brews with the equipment he sold us. The other stuff we bought from him worked fine and the advice he gave us was very useful.

After being handed down a 5 gallon brew kit I made my way over to Zok's and Paul was great in checking it out and selling me some items that could use an upgrading or that looked questionable in the sanitary department. He didn't try to up sell anything crazy but just to get me a kit that would work well for into batches. Service was great in that way and he really knew a ton.

I also picked up an all extract Pale Ale recipe and he has his own instructions. He had me read them over to see if I had any questions so that was reassuring that I had my questions answered before leaving. Seems like some of the stuff could sit for a while but hopefully he makes sure that it doesn't get old.

Selection was good, but didn't really get into much of that.

Looking forward to brewing this recipe and hopefully stepping up my game into partial mash with the next one as I have some experience with the Mr. Beer kit and brewing that way, which is pretty similar to 5 gallon.

Zok's is a great Brew Shop. Paul is an excellent guy who is very knowledgeable of beer and what goes into it. I have been going to him for 3 years now and have had several successful batches. He does start you off with his recipe to make sure your first batch is a good one. Then from there he helps you get more complex. Paul often has a draft on tap at Willi Brew down the street from him. Do yourself a favor and order his Roden Zok, you will love it. Very sophisticated hint of Smokey cherry at the end. Out of sight. I enjoy picking Zok's brain every time I go in there. I do want to get involved with some of his classes, I can't help but to expect to get some lovely little tidbits of information to bring my batches to the next level. Thanks Zok, see you soon.

The reason I went to this place all the way from new britain was because I saw that they had a great deal on a wort chiller. I also got my true brew kit from here too. Paul was good and helped me a little. He did however push his recipe on me and tried to stear me away from all grain brewing for my first batch. I guess he had a point but I did all grain anyway. The reason I put "inexpensive" was just because of that wort chiller. everything else seemed average. good place, but a long drive to get there.

This is a very good store located in the heart of downtown Willimantic, CT. Once you get passed the frogs, it's a quiant little town. This place has everything you need for homebrewing and the staff knows a ton about beer making as well as wine making. It's a fairly small shop, but it has everything you could need. The man in charge even offers classes on beer making and wine making. The beers he brews that are on tap are absolutely delicious and he really knows his beer. Take his advice and maybe a class and you'll learn alot from this place. It is very reasonably priced and really has alot of stuff, even though it seems very small.

This is where I bought my first homebrew kit. I have continually gone back to Zok's for everything from ingredients to equipment. He has a nice selection of grains, wyeast, hops, and ingredient kits. He also has a nice selection of books and other assorted beer related goods. Not only can you find what you need but Zok is very knowlegable and has to be one of the nicest people I've met through beer culture. He offers brewing classes and will usually offer you a homebrew when you stop in. If you need supplies for homebrew, go and support Zoks Homebrew shop!!!

Ditto on the two other reviews. This is a very well stocked homebrew shop, run by a very friendly and knowledgable gent. If your'e a current or future (or former, like me) homebrewer, this place is well worth spending some time and money in. Hopefully, one day in the future I will again have the space and time to be a homebrewer. If and when that happy days happens, I likely contact Zoks for info/advice/equipment. This is a fine home brewing resource, well worth getting in touch or into the store

The place is located in downtown Willimantic, a couple blocks away from Willimantic Brewing Co. It's a little hidden, down a side street, and you kind of have to keep your eyes peeled to see it.
Walking inside, it's a small shop littered with various beer and wine making supplies. The walls and counter, basically any available space is littered with various beer ephemera, from old bottles of homebrew to rare and obscure posters from local breweries. The place is a tribute to local brewing, and craft beer in general. Very homey and very interesting, particularly on your first visit.
If Paul Zocco doesn't have it, you're probably not going to find it in the state. Although he can't carry everything, with limited space, he's got everything that's important. He specializes in homebrewing beer, and that seems to be his main focus. His product is always fresh, with new yeast, hops and malt all the time, and if you have any questions, he's the guy to ask. Mr. Zocco is a CT beer guru.
