375ml poured into a Duvel tulip.

Pours a deep, dark brown with mahogany hues when held up to the light. One-finger fizzy head collapses quickly, leaving the appearance of a fizzy cola -- think bubbles popping like tiny beer eruptions.

Smells of booze-soaked black cherries, raisins, cola, buttery oak, figs.

Rich. Tastes like figs, black cherries, molasses, cola, vanilla, licorice in the finish, Red wine tannins are present, but not overpowering.

Medium-light body, lighter than I expected for the style. Quite effervescent at first, but the bubbles decrease significantly after a few minutes.

Overall, a delicious and very drinkable rendition of the style -- very flavorful, but not quite as intense as a St Bernardus abt 12 or a Rochefort 10. I could drink this just about every evening.

Bottle from my west coast buddy.
This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was semi-dark murky amber to brown color with a finger's worth of white foamy head that slid off at a moderate pace. Sliding thin lace.
The aroma had some sweet Maraschino cherry juice, light milk chocolate, driftwood but clean and sweet, grassy hops, touch of Belgian spices and ended with a little bit of whiskey.
The flavor took the prior mentioned aromas in swift and sweet. Long smooth sweet malty and cherry-like aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a pretty good sipping quality about it. Whiskey booziness seemed to punch a little bit of heat here in this department. Carbonation felt just a touch restrained, but I guess that's what assisted in the booziness being a little bit more prominent. Me, I didn't mind that.
Overall, for the most part this was a pretty nice Belgian Dark Strong ale that I'd come back to if I could ever get it again.

Poured into a Gavroche tulip. Pours a dark red amber with a half finger light khaki head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, cherries, dark stone fruit, vanilla, port and oak. Although this was aged in wine barrels, an unexpected whisky element. Flavor is deep dark stone fruit, cherry, vanilla, oak with red wine tannins developing late in the taste, finishing semi dry with lightly tannic dark fruit and a hint of hops and wood. Nice medium body with light creaminess. A flavorful and complex dark ale that tastes more like a barleywine than a Belgian ale with good red wine influence from the barrel. The flavors really work quite well with each other with an interesting flavor progression from barleywine/strong ale to a more vinous influenced dark ale. I'm usually not a fan of wine flavors in beer, but the base ale here really combines fine with the wine barrel character. I liked this a lot and enjoyed it more as the glass emptied. Well done. And it looks and smells great.

375mL into a tulip. Pours a deep mahogany brown w/ minimal head that settles to a wispy film.

Aroma is sweet dark fruit, red grapes, bready Belgian yeast. Smells really "red."

Taste is a complex blend of toffee, prunes, brown sugar, vanilla, black cherries, molasses, oak, and a touch of dry red wine. As red as it smells, it tastes more brown. Echoes of English barleywine here.

Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated, surprisingly light on the palate. Medium body.

Overall a tasty little dark Belgian, somewhate reminiscent of Russian River Salvation. Very nice.

I had this beer on-tap at WABL Belgianfest 2013 in a snifter taster glass.

This beer is their La Petite Mort aged on Chelan cherries in red wine barrels.

Appearance: rich, deep ruby amber red. Dark and deep and alluring!

Smell: I am going to be using the word "rich" a lot, I'm guessing. Wonderful aroma of rich, sweet, smooth dark cherries. Strawberry, plum and caramel aromas also come through. Delicious!

Taste: very sweet, with an up-front caramel character and a mild berry fruitiness. Cherries are present as well, but not quite as in the aroma. Oak and vanilla are also present, and the overall effect is almost of a strong ale or barleywine but without the hops. A little bit astringent, but overall quite good.

Mouthfeel: a medium-light body with a decent carbonation. A nice, entertaining, refreshing fizziness, though not really creamy.

Overall: an interesting and satisfying beer. I like cherries in beer a lot, so this was geared to appeal to me. I hope they make it available again!

Look: Clear burgundy body. Like Ron Burgundy's sports coat. Very light brown head. Minimal lacing and legging.
Smell: Red wine barrel. Sweet red fruit. Soft cherry cough syrup.
Taste: Above with a slight medicinal taste. Very, very slight tartness. Medium to long finish with a taste that lingers.
Feel: Slight astringency. Light lather. Medium body.

Overall - No bad. Well crafted. Clean.
