From notes:

Appearance: Arrives in a shaker pint glass with 1/2 finger of tan head. This settles to a still substantial coating, leaving behind nice lacing. Beer is nearly black with just a hint of reddish brown around the edges.

Smell: Mild smell, not much to pick up here.

Taste: Strong flavor of roasted barley bitterness upfront with a cocoa and coffee finish. Oat smoothness shows itself throughout.

Mouthfeel: Average carbonation with great body.

Drinkability: My first from this brewery. Thought of walking to it; but the notion of carrying growlers 2 miles back to me hotel stopped me.

A- Black with some brown highlights. Tan head is just under a finger thick.
S- More chocolate than coffee. Slight woody hop notes.
T- Taste is a bit more rich. Deep coffee and chocolate notes. A bit astringent.
M- very dry finish, but there is a good smooth feeling from the oatmeal.
D- An all around good oatmeal stout. Deep without being overly heavy.

Growler poured into a Ghost River shaker.

A: Pours a deep, dark brown only letting a little light through to produce some glowing highlights. One-finger khaki colored head dissipates slowly to settle to a patchy film, with minimal lacing left behind.

S: Roasted malt and chocolate with a touch of coffee, oatmeal, and hops. Insubstantial aroma, but still pretty pleasant.

T: Much like the smell, the roasted malt and chocolate come to the fore quickly. They are fairly subtle, but they are there, and are tasty. Followed by a bit of slightly bitter coffee and chocolate, providing a nice balance between bitter and sweet through the middle. Finishes slightly roasty and hoppy, but again they are both subtle and somewhat underwhelming.

M: Medium body, a la the oatmeal, but not as thick as I would have liked. Slightly creamy, with moderate carbonation. Pretty drying due to both the roasted malt and the hops. Not bad overall.

D: A pretty nice oatmeal stout. It's a bit lighter than I like, but that adds somewhat to its drinkability. Pretty well balanced; goes down easily. Next time I'm in the area, I'll pick up another growler.
