Type: 12-oz. can
Glass: Firestone restaurant pint glass
From: Cherokee Market Beer & Wine in Normal Heights (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $7.99 for a 4-pack
Purchased: April 3, 2014
Consumed: April 3, 2014
Misc.: Nice looking can

Poured a honey, orange, clear color with six fingers of khaki, creamish white pillowy head. Still had about two ounces left to pour, but the head was overwhelming, a bit like a beer float. Tons of layered foamy lacing along the sides of the glass. Thick, uneven, pillowy retention. Reminded me of a milkshake on the top.

Smelled wet cascade hops, iced tea, lemon, lime notes, citrus hops, floral hops and honey.

Taste wasn’t much like what I thought it was going to taste like. Earthy, grainy, grassy hops, rye hops, iced tea, cascade hops, caramel, toffee, honey and slight buttery malts. Actually grew on me a bit as it went down.

Medium body. Creamy texture. Average-to-soft carbonation. Long, bitter finish.

This beer was a bit better than average. Not sure if I would try it again, but it was probably even better than I thought it would be.

12 ounce can, w/o freshness or canning date info.

According to the can, "8%, 95 IBUs, Cascade, magnum and chinook hops"

Pours hazed typical amber, solid tan head, stays nicely, leaving behind a nice looking thicker froth, ample sheeting and thicker lacing.

On the nose I get some piney hops and some smoky and sweet malts.

Smooth, creamy and easy drinking, hops quite evident, but not biting or off putting in nature. A hint of lite smoke again and malty sweetness, add to the balance, complexity and enjoyability of this one. They call it an "Imperial IPA" but to me this one really seems more like an English IPA with more pronounced hops they typically found in that style.

Enjoyable stuff. Worth a try if you see it

This starts with a nice aroma of flowers and ripe mango. Attractive appearance with rich amber color and a long-lasting foam. It's quite sweet at first sip. After a few tentative sips, it grows quite bitter. A little sticky in the mouthfeel.

The mango flavor is quite pronounced. It's just marred by the medicinal bitterness that sticks in the back of the throat. Woody sensation with endless bitter aftertaste. From the 12 oz can in a four-pack purchased at Liticker's in San Diego. Attractive packaging and I'm always happy to try a new beer in cans.
