Saison Du BlodgetSaison Du Blodget
Notes: The only beer that combines the hop forward Five with barrel aging, Saison du Blodget has a historic profile melding tartness and bitterness. The wild aroma is rooted in the mix of hop notes and spent peaches from the Fantasia, which also contribute unique yeasts and bacteria.

750ml bottle. Served in a stemmed glass.

Pours a lighter orange body, slight golden hue, with a two finger white head, solid retention, not much lacing. Thin film. Smells of tart citrus, lemon, mild-moderately aggressive acetic tartness, oak, stone fruit, mild cracker, no graininess or lactic acid. Flavour is very similar to the smell; the lemon and stone fruit is more pronounced, and there is a moderately aggressive acetic quality that makes it on the tarter side of the BA saison spectrum, which I welcome. The stone fruit is more mellow than if it were a true peach aged saison, but it's still quite noticeable. Oak, mild funk, a bit of horse blanket, but not overtly cheesy. Very pleasantly tart and fruity flavour profile. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, nice carbonation, crisp, refreshing and mildly drying. Finish is a bit of stonefruit and funk. Great taste and depth in a 5.75% ABV package. Overall, a very nice saison that seems underrated to me, but has just enough of the tartness and stone fruit that works quite well for me.

A nice enough beer, but I thought the sour component was a bit over the top (well, for me at least). Still, there's a nice lemon grass and light honey component that helps to keep things interesting. A nice enough beer, even if it's not my cup of tea.

This years release, not retired, and probably a duplicate.

Pours a bright saturated orange, a finger of white foam on top. Spotty lace around the edges of the glass.

Musty oaky aroma with a juicy citrus quality, peach pit, fuzzy sweetness.

Bright peachy acidity in the taste, grapefruit, yogurty lacto, wet wood, oaky tannic bitterness briefly in the dry aftertaste. Crisp acidity, refreshingly tart verging on sour. Somewhere in the realm of Fantome and Fantasia, somewhat lambic-esque. Overall it's tasty and nicely complex and cohesive.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Pale orange. Nice head. Nice surface foam.

Smell - Funky and citrusy. A little tropical. A bit of yeast. some Belgian sugars.

Taste - Very hoppy. Otherwise kinda bland. Yeasty again. Pale malts and leas funk. A little bitter.

Mouthfeel - medium body. Otherwise a nice saison.

Overall - Decent, but nothing better than what my local shop has.

Pour is deep golden amber with a tight white head. Nose has a great oak presence, huge bright peach, and notes of dusty brett. Taste is even brighter, fruits are huge, tropical fruits with a good bit of peach, brett is quite clean and citrusy with notes of leather and dust. Carbonation is strong, body is very delicate and soft. Flavors are extremely juicy and bright.
