Very Good
White Truffle GoseWhite Truffle Gose
Notes: An alternate version of our salt and coriander spiked German wheat beer using over five pounds of Oregon white truffles to lend the bright, tart brew a more grounded flavor.

Bottle: Poured a bright yellow color ale with a large off-white foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of coriander with light tart notes is pretty enticing. Taste is a nice mix of coriander with light tart notes with hints of truffle notes and alight saline finish. Body is pretty full for style with great carbonation. Very drinkable example of the style with good amount of complexity.

750mL bottle poured into a snifter.
(A)- Pours a hazed apricot orange color with a decent white frothy head. Decent retention.
(S)- Quite salty, but with a nice lemon zest element with an earthy mushroom/sea water component in the middle.
(T)- Again, this really nice earthy salty lemon brine profile that is very similar to the smell. Bits of orange and grains on the finish.
(M)- A nice carbonation level and balance to this. Dry yet earthy and fitting the style.
(O)- A very interesting and very successful take on a Gose. The white truffle really adds an extra layer or two of depth, earth, and complexity

750ml bottle poured into tulip, thanks Rutager for sending the bottle

A hazy bright yellow saturated with tiny bubbles that feed a massive loose soapy head that has great retention leaving thick partial rings deep down the glass

S lemon, dry cereal, mineral water, some fine ground white pepper, coriander, yeast I can't place, earthy but I'm not sure about truffles

T earthy dried mushrooms maybe? I'm having a hard time placing this one, I'm assuming its truffle I'm getting? a little tart and just a little salty, like a hefe but with a completely different yeast profile if that makes sense

M light bodied, prickly bubbles almost foam it up, just a little earthy spice and salt linger

O something different, refreshing, earthy, easy enough to drink, I could drink another

Not that familiar with the style or truffles for that matter, something that would go well with a hot Summers day

750ml bottle, unknown bottling date, poured into a Kuhnhenn snifter 7/19/2014.

A- Golden straw-yellow body with a two finger white head, good retention, bits of lacing. The head is particularly substantial.

S- Wheat, coriander, yeast. Sweet candi sugar. No truffles.

F- Wheat, a bit of orange peel, coriander, yeast. Sweet pale malt. Not very tart or salty at all. No truffles, either.

M- Medium bodied, nicely carbonated, creamy and smooth. Not dry or resinous. For the most part, it would be a very drinkable beer if not for S and F.

O- Very bland tasting beer, especially after I cracked a Westbrook Gose to drink side by side with this. No sourness or saltiness to it and the lack of truffle flavours was fairly disappointing.

Bottle opened on 4.28.14

A - Pours a hazy lighter orange with a smaller white head that just sits there.

S - Very light, subtle citrus and wheat, sweeter.

T - Light wheat and orange citrus followed by a creamy earthiness.

D - Light body with good carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel.

O - Sweet and creamy. A nice drinker, and not as crisp as the normal Gose.

Pour is lighter golden amber with a fairly tight white head with some larger bubbles. Nose is light salt up front, a hint of grain, strong citrus behind. Taste is similar, a bit of earthiness to it, fair touch of salt, faint hint of grain, tons of citrus behind. Body is a touch of oil, softer carb and creamy feel.

Truffles and gose, together at last!

Appearance. Pours a very hazy, rich honey-gold with a finger and a half of frothy white head.

Smell. Decent fruity belgian yeast esters, some very light orchard fruits and melon, some sweet light grains. I wish I could say truffle, but just not getting any.

Taste. Light lemon sourness, dried citrus rind, light saltiness, light bitter herbal earthiness, some more light orchard fruitiness, and some fruity belgian yeast (iness).

Mouthfeel. Medium body, kind of slick feeling which I would guess is from the salt (?). Medium-strong, lively carbonation.

Overall. The truffle flavor just wasn't there, but a good summer beer nonetheless.

750mL into a tulip. Pours a clear golden color w/ a loose white head, good carbonation.

Aroma is delicate and a little tea-like. Pear juice, chamomile, lavender. Dried flowers.

Taste is likewise light and subtle. Floral, just a touch briny but really more minerally. I'm not getting any truffle whatsoever, but that flavor has eluded me before.

Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with nice lively carbonation.

Overall a nice, gentle, enjoyable beer but it doesn't stand out as anything exceptional. I expected it to at least be extremely different, given that I've never had either a Gose or a beer brewed with white truffles. But it's not really all that different.

Growler from the brewery.

A clear orange yellow with a dense, white head that falls off to a ring quickly, this looks decent. The nose is awesome. Earthy, funky mushrooms, bright coriander, doughy, honey malt character, cotton candy,a little pungent cilantro herbaceousness are all present in impressive balance. I could smell this all day and be a happy man.

The palate opens with a touch of earth, a mild saltiness and a brightening coriander note. A touch of earthy funk is also present. As with the base beer, the salt levels are low, but completely appropriate and extremely refreshing. Light in body with a drying, snappy finish, maybe a touch watery? Carbonation is crisp. Awesome stuff.
