Notes: Oregon Native is a collaboration with Derek Einberger, winemaker at Patton Valley Vineyards. The beer combines their estate pinot noir grapes with our method of cask fermentation on whole fruit, the idea being to highlight the varietal and make a pinot beer, not simply a grape beer. To keep it from becoming too busy on the palate, we avoided the usual mix of yeasts and bacteria employed here for their vineyard culture, yielding a profile without excessive peaks, allowing the nuance of the fruit to show in both aroma and flavor. Aged in casks from both Patton Valley and Fausse Piste, the Oregon Native expresses a truly local character.

Grains: two-row, vienna, wheat
Hops: 2012 harvest Columbia, aged at room temp.
Also: pinot noir grapes

2018 Oregon Native

This pours the color of watered down cider, a light ruddy red color. Lightly tart, with emerging notes of tobacco and hay. Opens as it sits, releasing more cherry notes as it does. Simply fantastic.

Had this one at a tasting a ways back, from notes…
Glowing reddish amber, those fizz candies in the long strip, cherries, brown sugar, strawberries, vinous notes all over, more wood in the mouth then on the nose, raspberry jam as it warms, neat stuff, something different for sure

750 ml bottle, 2015 Vintage.

Gentle pour yields bright and clear with roby tones for days.

Nose is all pinot noir and funk. Mouth-watering.

Jammy and dry at the same time. Tons of fruit but fully attenuated, hints of creamy yogurt with mild balanced acidity.

I need to get more of this apparently. This was fantastic, possibly Upright's best yet.

On tap at the Upright 7th Anniversary Party.

A mildly hazy crimson off white head with no real lacing. Nose is super grape-y, a blend of concord and Cabernet Franc, fruity, berry with mild tannins. A mild Brett character with hay and a little clove is present but this is overtaken by the grape. The palate opens fruity with plenty of grape, a nice blend of concord grapes and fruity, mildly jammy, blackberry, raspberry grape flavors. Sour with a blend of lactic and a little citric acid. Drying, mildly tannic on the finish, this is ready good. The grape expression sets this apart. Highly recommended.

Bottle, 2015 vintage.
A truly brilliant nose, earthy, mildly mineraly, tannic, fruity, mildly jammy, peppery, mildly clove-like, this is remarkably deep and layered. A little lemon, a moderate lactic and a touch of grassy funk are present. The palate also brilliantly expresses the pinot noir grape notes with a combination of fruity, earthy and mildly spicy notes. Excellent stuff

Bottle, 2018 vintage.
This vintage is pretty spectacular. Following Special Herbs is a tough task, and this vintage holds its own. Brilliant vinous notes, bright, fruity, earthy, mildly jammy with lemon and lime. Pepper and allspice are tempered by blueberries, layers of oak, vanilla and wine add much depth. Stunning balance, with a delicate honey-like sweetness present. So damn drinkable. 4.5

Draft at 7th anniversary. Really enjoyed this one. Will have to wait to see how bottles turn out for final confirmation. Beautiful color with a head that subsides fairly quickly. Musty pinot, some barrel and subtle funk in aroma. Juicier and more wine and fruit forward in flavor. A beautiful melding of barrel aged saisons and wine.
