Big thanks to Tim for this one, bottle #66 of 110. I've been really digging wine barrel aged beers as of late, so this couldn't have come at a better time. It pours out bright yellow, like liquid nuclear sunshine. Jimi Hendrix hazy throughout the body, topped off by a measly white film that would hardly qualify as a head. It crackles and sizzles a bit as the bubbles traverse into thin air.

Good Lord, what am I smelling? And of course, I mean that in the best way possible. Never smelled anything quite like this before. Different, dizzyingly complex (as are most of the Sole Comps), and downright joyous to the senses. Tart stone fruits, lush green apples, lemon flesh, and moderate sweaty and Brett-y funk, all painted on the floral and herbal canvas... Jeepers!

The nose is fantastic, it really is. The tantalizing sour notes, the creeping funk, and the fresh flower patch notes are meshing wonderfully, but I would have liked to see a bit more wine barrel. I'm sure the tart fruits as well as some of the funk are no doubt a product of the barrel, but a little more vinous oak and dry tannins would've send me into orgasmo. I'm just being picky, though.

Well, the first sip doesn't sweep me off my feet after a night of ballroom dancing and make sweet love to me for hours like the aroma did. I mean, it tastes good. It's nice. But it's not otherworldly in any sense. It's actually much, MUCH less sour than the aroma would indicate. It's barely even tart, really. Some stone fruit and lemon flesh is present, but not in the acidic, sour way you'd expect.

Oak is more present, at least, giving up a shallow dryness that cascades over just about everything. Brett funk, clumpy and almost cheesy with mild florals, rose pedals, leaves, and other flower-like notes that only a true gardener would be able to identify. A nice citrus, lemon, and faint white grape skin finish sends you on your way after each and every sip, with just a hint of oaky goodness. Medium bodied, creamy and smooth with low carbonation (probably due to the cask).

Incredibly unique beer, and I expect nothing less from Upright's Sole Comp series. The nose on this was amazing, and while the taste was still good, it didn't live up to the expectations set from my sniffer. Nevertheless, a great experience, a one that likely won't be had again thanks to the incredibly small availability. Would love to try the gin barrel aged version for comparison.

A-Cloudy yellow, slight orange, nice carbonation even though the head doesn't last that long.

S-Funk, oak, grapes, lemon, grass and wheat. Can tell this was in Pinot Noir barrels.

T-More tart than sour, lemon and grass. Tad bit of grapes as well.

M-Light, tad watery and not much carbonation.

O-First Upright "sour," another great extra I received.

Thanks Seth.
The second Batch: Single cask four with yarrow and rose
Bottle 93/110

A - Pours a hazy light orange with a bubbly near-white head that fades quickly.

S - Tart oak, lemons, rose-floral.

T - Mild buttery wood, some acidic lemon. More pear as it sits.

D - Thin and watery with ok carbonation.

O - Smells nice, just thin and mild all- around.
