Our brewers collaborated with the team at Rise Up Coffee Roasters to select and roast a single origin, fair-trade organic Sumatra coffee specifically for this project. This beer is brewed to the strength of an imperial stout with a base of English Marris Otter malt layered with copious amounts of dark malts. The resulting beer was conditioned on more than 25 pounds of coffee lending a rich, espresso-like aroma. Coffee, dark chocolate, and roast characters are prominent in this velvety smooth and darkest of ales.

I rarely write out a review so this might be a lot of filler to reach the minimum BUT I HAD TO DO IT because-- while I like Evolution-- this was super disappointing. Smells great, got great reviews-- tastes so overwhelmingly of pure alcohol (I mean, there is SOME flavor) and it's thin-bodied as well. Bought at the brewery in a 25 Oz bottle to take home. A rare did not finish for me.

From the large bottle, it pours a very dark brown with a light brown head that eventually reduces to a ring and leaves lacing. In the nose, it is roasted malt and chicory. In the mouth, it is roasted malt and coffee. VERY STRONG FLAVORS!

750ml bottle
Pours near black with one finger of light brown head that produces light lacing.
The nose is moderate, malty and has a light coffee roast aroma.
Taste is really good. The highlight for me is the balance of the lightly bitter coffee roast and semi sweet malt. A lot of the coffee porters and stouts I have had lately are dominated by coffee, this one is right in the groove for me.
The medium to full body seemed a bit mundane at first but is smooth and doesn't have any detractors as far as I am concerned.
A big bottle of big stout that is very drinkable. I enjoyed it to the last drop.
Well done!
