12 oz. Draft pour.

It pours a pleasing rich copper that is crystal clear. The head was thin but probably due to the server as I had no trouble generating plenty of antique white foam and lace with a swirl of the glass.

The nose is weak but nice, tropical hops, though not as much hop aroma as I would like, and some caramel malt. The pineapple comes through very lightly with the tropical hop flavors along with sweet caramel and biscuit malt. While fairy sweet there is nothing cloying about the quick, clean finish. A soft medium body with moderate carbonation adds to the ease of drinking these.

I started my afternoon with a couple of these poolside and while probably a bit mediocre it was the best available option at the time and did not let me down.

From the growler, it pours a hazy amber with a moderate head. Citrus scent tickles the nose. The mouth is invigorated by the mild flavor from both the pineapple and the hops. I enjoyed it!

Pours clear, bright yellow in color with 1/4 inch head. Taste is an interesting combination of pine, pineapple, and graprefruit. Fairly bitter aftertaste with pineapple juice sweetness on the backbone. Really good mix of sweet and bitter. Still not sure if I truly like this, but it is interesting.

Look is golden with some cloudiness. Smell is hoppy with a hint of the pineapple. Taste is similar. Not too hoppy but also not an overwhelming pineapple taste. A nice balance. Good find for a mix-six pack.

Slightly hazy amber liquid coming from the 12 oz bottle into a pint glass, decent head falls to a ring.

Smell has a distinct pineapple twang to it, malty sweetness backed up with some herbal resin. Flavor is a bit doughy, some toasted bread and honey like sweetness at first, middle starts to kick up the fruit, definite pineapple juice here, finishes with lingering pineapple and some hoppy bitterness.

Probably the most authentic pineapple flavor I've gotten from a beer, and it's a little better than Pineapple Sculpin (surprisingly), although this beer could benefit from an additional dose or two of hops, as it tastes more like a Pale Ale than an IPA.

12 oz bottle from PA.
Pours with a clear light copper body. Some vigor was needed in the pour to raise a head.
Dynamic and complex flavor profile with some pineapple and other tropical fruits. Moderate bitterness.

Evolution Craft Brewing Co. "Pine'hop'le"
12 fl. oz, brown glass bottle, label notched "Bottled On: MAY 2016" and sampled JULY 7 2016
$2 @ Giant, Havertown, PA
also from a firkin @ South on 26 May 2016 for $7 / pint

Nowhere on the label does it state that this beer is brewed using pineapple, but their website states that it's "Brewed with loads of pineapple juice...".

Appearance: Deep golden/amber body with visible particulate in suspension beneath a short-lived head of frothy off-white. Lacing is limited to small spots and splashes.

Aroma: Pineapple over honey-ish malt. Pine, and perhaps grapefruit. Some citrus pith or chalky minerals.

Flavor: As the aroma suggests with a solid, biscuity/caramelish maltiness that leaves it leaning towards sweetness until the hop bitterness kicks in towards the end, and then lingers fairly heavily, but shortly, in the finish. A drop of sweet pineapple follows that, lingering even further with a bit of citrus pit.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a bit of a dextrin's edge. Standard carbonation.

Overall: It's a malty IPA with pineapple juice added, that's clear, and it works but the two don't seem to connect really well. The malt base seems better suited to an English-style IPA whereas this should probably have been done in more of an American vein as it seems the malt keeps trying to push the pineapple out of the way. That's just my opinion, however, and I certainly can't hold it against them, particularly as maltiness seems to be one of their defining characteristics. It's pleasant, malty, fruity, sweetish and interesting. Cold out of the cooler on a fishing trip or backyard BBQ... I wouldn't turn it down!

Pours a hazy orange color with a dusty white head that laces well. Smell is sweet malts with a vaguely tropical hop overlay. Taste is malt forward with a sweetness behind it. There is a pineapple sweet flavor permeating through it but it is unclear if it is from an additive of pineapple or imparted by hops. Feel is a little sticky but otherwise pretty clean and medium bodied.

In the end this is a west coast IPA that is trying to ride the wave of east coast tropical hop-forward trends. Being steeped in the legit tropical hop movement I am not really impressed. The pineapple flavor is muddled at best and can't get out of the way of the malt. Now, if you are a malt-first beer guy you may enjoy this one as it has a different twist away from the citrus west coast profile, but this New England guy is having none of it.
