Things are progressing nicely with regard to my ongoing and systematic eradication of the Bottle Backlog here at Chez Woody and the results are noticeable, but it becomes incumbent upon me to drink and review new beers as they become available. I refer to this as "chipping", since it is just odds & sods without any overarching theme, such as brewery and/or style.

From the bottle: "15.8 (deg.) P, 65 IBU".

I Pop!ped the cap & began a gentle pour, in keeping with my New Year's Resolution and my Lenten denial. Aggro pours from bottles are now (mostly) a thing of the past. An in-glass swirl produced a finger of foamy, rocky, tawny head with good retention that left some nice lacing as it slowly fell to wisps. Color was solid Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9), although almost a perfect 9, with NE-quality clarity. Nose smelled heavily of pineapple with some piney mintiness and once again, my Pavlovian hophead mouth was watering. Mmmm. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was very pineapple with some caramel and breadiness breaking through from underneath. I had been reminded of pineapple upside-down cake in a different recent review, but here it was again! It was clear that they had not skimped on the pineapple in making this beer. That said, how does one rate a novelty beer when it comes to style? There are times that personal taste really should play a part. Finish was semi-dry with the inherent sweetness of the pineapple playing a large part in keeping it from being dry. It was tasty enough, but it was not enough to satiate my hops jones, which is what I really want in an AIPA. Oh well, Next!

Pours a hazy golden orange color with a frothy white head that leaves little chunks of lacing.

Smells of bright tropical fruits.

Tastes of the tropical fruits with a solid malt base. Bright hops lead off with notes of pineapple and grapefruit. Pine comes through as well. Malts add in with caramel and biscuit notes. Pretty well balanced. Finishes fairly clean.

Mouthfeel is medium with a smooth amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is a solid, fruity ipa.

Look is golden with some cloudiness. Smell is hoppy with a hint of the pineapple. Taste is similar. Not too hoppy but also not an overwhelming pineapple taste. A nice balance. Good find for a mix-six pack.

Poured from a bottle into a pint nonic glass. Has a yellow to orange color with a lot of carbonation. Very nice hop taste. Not overboard. I will probably buy tihis again.

Poured from a chilled 12 oz. bottle into an ale glass.

Looks: Brown with some copper tones, some haziness, 1 finger of head with good aeration. Head dissipates quickly.
Aroma: Pineapple, mango, tropical fruit, some hops in the background, molasses.
Taste: Hops, malt, chocolate, some nice bitterness, very little fruit in the taste.
Mouthfeel: Good bit of hoppy bitterness at the back of the tongue.
Overall: An excellent beer. I've added this beer to my regular hoard.

One parting comment: I had this one first on draft at a local watering hole and it tasted better on draft. This may come as no surprise, but the difference in the draft and the bottle was substantial.

Bottle from Edgemont. Unfiltered burnt orange with two finger white head and retaining lace. Fresh smell of pineapples, brett?, burnt hop and candied sugar. Flavor is juicy but only minorly hoppy and not much bite however it is chewy. Very interesting. I like it.

12 oz

Pours slightly cloudy amber orange, fine pillowy eggshell head retains indefinitely at about a quarter inch.

Smells of biscuit, honey, and piney and citrus hops.

Flavor is of biscuit and honey with a piney hoppiness and a mix of citrus and pineapple fruitiness. The pineapple is subtle and blends well with the other flavors.

Medium body with stinging carbonation on the roof of the mouth.

Nice, decent IPA, beautiful pour. Otherwise solid, but the pineapple adds a nice little twist that makes this stand out. Makes this worth trying and very drinkable, something I'd probably look for again in the future.
