Sampling a cellar temp bottle poured into a tulip glass. the beer pours a dark cocoa brown color with fizzy beige head that fades immediately after completing the pour.
Aroma is sweet chocolate malt with some brown sugar and a bit of toffee. No hops nor any booze is apparent on this malty beer.
First sip reveals a silky smooth texture with a minimal gently rolling carbonation that makes the beer easy to drink.
Flavor is what nose predicts with all malt flavors. Chocolate and brown sugar dominate with a bit of roast in the background. Not any hops to be found on the flavor profile either.
This beer has no booziness and drinks very easy. A decent porter with no flaws. It isnt mindblowing but i am enjoying drinking this tonight.

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #37 (Feb 2010):

Big, frothy tan head is tempted to overflow but holds strong; dark leather-brown color sheds no glow for the eyes. Dry cocoa powder, hint of charcoal and used coffee grounds infiltrate the nostrils. Smoothness is nearly silky with a creamy backdrop. Roasty to the hilt but does not pass the point of being too much. Burnt sugar, smoky charcoal, Sumatra-roast coffee and unsweetened dark chocolate all come to mind as the malt drops a bomb on the palate. Hint of alcohol and dark fruit in the middle. Hops are a forethought, yet enough is thrown into the mix to help keep any sweetness in check. Pleasant roasty finish.

Top-notch Porter here: If you put your ear up to this beer, you would swear is quietly cries to be with oysters.

We finally put down the hops and gave the malt a chance, and quite successfully! This complex beer shows it's depths in many aspects. The scent is anywhere from molasses to oats to coffee, and keep you coming back for another sift of this loaded brews nose "palette"? (More sweet than smoking imo.) The flavor follows the same pattern, melding into a very solid and singular flavor which you would never guess to be 7 malts if blindfolded! The complexity of the multi-malt combination is there, but doesn't tend to linger, giving you a full impression of it's well encompassed flavor. Incredibly drinkable and it's finish is gone just as fast as they came unfortunately... Sooo another round?

Nice dark beer with a quickly facing head and no lacing. Big roasty malts and bitter coffee in the nose. The taste is very lightly sweet with bitter roasted malt and a coffee taste as well. Thin mouthfeel but not unusual for a porter. Solid beer.

This is a solid beer. However, there really aren't any outstanding characteristics. It is an easy drinking porter but it's a little watered down. I like my porters with more body and a fuller head. Great starter porter. And It does have a decent nose.

The beer pours pitch black with a huge tan head. In the nose it's vanilla beans and toasty malts. It tastes very toasty and dark. The aftertaste is especially tasty. The mouthfeel is lacking I think, sort of watery on the aftertaste. Overall, pretty good and enjoyable.
