Style: American Pale Ale (APA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our Grunion Pale Ale wasn’t born on a beach, but in a backyard. Originating from an employee-only home brew contest, this award-winning hoppy pale ale is named after the tiny local fish known for late night frolics on shore. A pair of new hop varieties lend strong yet balanced summer melon aromas and herbal flavors, while a soft caramel malt sweetness holds it all together.

I like pale ales, but prefer stouts, porters, or when I can find them, cream ales. However, this may be the best beer I have ever had. Cali a creamin by Mother Earth has been my top until this brilliant bitch came along. This beer is incredible, unique, and worth a sip. I absolutely love this beer and wish I could give it 6s.

Bitter, super hoppy pale ale with floral sweetness shooting in your nostrils. Non intrusive, dry aftertaste. Tastes like pine but overwhelming. One of the best pale ales I've ever tasted.

Had this last night after work at the new Mira Mesa location off Carrol.
My waiter recommended the Grunion and can't thank the dude enough. Solid copper look, fruity aroma but not overpowering, excellent taste and feel. The hop/malt ratio is excellent!
This has become my favorite Pale Ale since yesterday!
****12/23/15: Purchased a sixer @ Albertsons in Temecula and it is flawed! Not hop aroma, color and flavor off. hopefully it is just my bad luck on an old six pack.****

This has Pale Ale written on the Label but I have to say it is GOOD BEER! Recommended from the local Central Market in Austin by their beer specialist. It is overshadowed by Sculpin which is good as well but in my opinion this is much better. It has a fruitier almost melon type taste to it with a stronger malt backbone. But it still kicks you with that piney front bitterness with better follow-through on the tropical aftertaste. I drank a Pliny the Elder right before this to compare and in my opinion this is actually tastes better if you like a maltier more tropical tasting Pale ale. It is also very smooth and rich. I'm not sure what people are saying about onion taste, there is no hint of onion when I drank it and even from Ballast Point themselves they do not mention anywhere. It's much easier to buy, than Pliney which a friend had to send me from California! A must try those fond of IPA's/APA's.
