Pours a beautifully marble brown cascading carbonation that slowly turns to black with a tan head. It seems promising at first, something that looks that soft and pillowy should follow through, but this doesn't.

This beer is shockingly bitter. I don't know how you make a peanut butter porter that is this bitter, and simply not smooth, but they did it. The peanut butter comes through but only in a light manner, then a bitter astringent porter flavor, which I'm not sure I've ever had in the style before.

Ballast Point is really going overboard with the variants on all their beers. They really didn't need to considering their success and the quality and popularity of their standby brews. Furthermore, there are dozens of big breweries making peanut butter+chocolate+even coffee stouts and porters that are way better than this.

On-tap at Congregation, on to the beer:

Victory at Sea is naturally a great beer, and this peanut butter version seems to cut a little of the coffee and sweetness from the flavor, and add a note of dry roasted peanut butter. The alcohol was noticable, sonething I recall the original being a little better with. For a different road down imperial porter way, this peanut butter version takes you on a cheerful ride.

10oz pour at Olympic tavern. A black body with thin cap. This beer smells like victory at sea with a hint of peanut butter. Taste starts off with coffee followed by a light vanilla and finishes with a mellow yet authentic peanut butter note. Mouthfeel medium body with low carbonation. This feels a little thicker than all the other victory at sea that I have tried. No booze; very drinkable for 10%. Overall the peanut butter was the best of the variants, but regular victory at sea still wins out over all the adjunct versions as the better beer. At the end of the day I want more peanut butter flavor. 4 Hands Absence of Light is the best peanut butter porter out there no doubt..
