Style: American Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our Cinnamon Raisin Commodore is truly a story of experimentation. Originally a gold-medal winning American stout first born in our R&D program, our brewers developed a new variation, adding cinnamon and raisins to this dark, bittersweet brew. The result is just the right amount of sweet and spice, with roasty maltiness at the helm.

I got this off the single shelf at my local Giant Eagle. It poured a opaque dark with tan head that is not leaving any lace. The scent had oatmeal cream pie hints. The taste started cinnamon spice then finished with dark fruit. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its ok....there are better stouts out there.

Appearance – Half finger head on a clear dark brown body.

Aroma – Cinnamon, spices, dark malt.

Taste – Cinnamon, raisins, very bitter, dark malt. Unbalanced and not good. Drank half and poured the rest.

Mouthfeel – Kind of slick and almost slimy but the cinnamon held that off a bit.

Overall – As said before, unbalanced and not good. Would not buy this for someone I don’t like.

12oz single bottle - nothing like a brew that might be a dessert all in itself, eh?

This beer pours a pretty solid black abyss, with the barest of cola-tinted basal edges, and four fingers of puffy, chunky, and mildly bubbly brown head, which leaves some decent bonsai forest treeline lace around the glass as it lazily subsides.

It smells of metallic cinnamon, oatmeal raisin cookies, bittersweet cocoa powder, subtle bready caramel malt, and very tame earthy, weedy, and floral hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, raisin pie, still kind of off-puttingly edgy cinnamon spice, weak cafe-au-lait, dime-store chocolate, and more understated leafy, earthy, and herbal green hoppiness.

The carbonation is active in its palate-pinging frothiness, the body a solid medium weight, and more or less smooth, as the cinnamon spiciness just doesn't seem to know when to put on the proverbial brakes. It finishes off-dry, the malt, dark fruitiness, and spice all coalescing as such.

Overall - this is a fairly representative example of what these two guest adjuncts can do, I suppose, but they seem kind of intrusive at times, which makes for a somewhat trying experience. Tasty, sure, but sort of hard to put back, due to, well, them - nothing more to say, I'm afraid.

Picked up a single from TW Arrowhead 10-9-17 for $2.99. Bottled on 11-29-16 - doh!

Beer poured black with a nice tan head with the original pour.

Nose was mild roastiness with a pleasant addition of cinnamon.

Taste was well blended. Base beer has a mild roastiness, a decent hop addition to balance the sweetness, a nice dose of cinnamon, and a touch of raisin.

Mouthfeel was medium bodied and smooth.

Overall, despite the age, this beer held up well over time. Wouldn't mind trying fresh in the future!

I would've liked to not rate this one. I poured it out. It didn't taste infected. But it tasted like chemicals to me. I tried a few times to figure out what was causing this in it but couldn't figure it out. Nobody else seemed to have this problem which is why I would've liked not to rate it. Maybe it was just my tongue!

Pours pitch black and raises a substantial head, about three fingers with an easy pour.
The aroma is typical spiced stout--cinnamon and roasted malt...
But the flavor made my eyes widen--that's not something that happens often. I like to think I've tasted a (decently) wide variety of flavors in general, but the spicy raison-y, strudel-y flavors that came with this beer surprised me. Tasted just like bread pudding with wonderful toasty stout malt. There's not much hop action here, and thankfully so.
Overall I'd say that two of these in a row would be too much. It's a sweet, decadent stout, but at only 6.5%, you can continue your session without much worry! I got one of these in one of those "Pick-your-own-sixpack" situations, and I'm glad I did.
Great beer, worth the time, but it may be too sweet for the hopforward crowd.

Thick dark pour with a lasting tan head and quality lacing. Picking up roasted malt and raisin on the nose. Can't find the cinnamon. I am, however, getting heavy cinnamon on the tongue. The raisin is in the back with the hop bite. Wow, this just keeps getting better. Great thick body on this beer. Would go great with oatmeal cookies. I'll be getting this again.
