Style: Hefeweizen

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.00%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
This Hefeweizen is the winning home brew recipe from our 20th Anniversary Employee Home Brew Competition. A traditional Hefeweizen, with a touch of Southern California love. Dry hopped with Mandarina Bavaria hops to accentuate the fruity, citrus aroma and flavors found in a typical hefeweizen. This beer pours a pale straw color with a light haze typically found in wheat beers and a lacy white head that lingers on the glass. With the hops and the yeast combined, it is more fruity than spicy. This character is complimented with a light malt graininess from the wheat and pilsner malts. This dry hopped hefeweizen is a light and refreshing beer to enjoy any time, or brew yourself. Homebrew recipe created by: Chris Hotz

Pale yellow body; no lasting head; very little carbonation once the bubbly head dissipates. Fruity, aromatic aroma; apples and bananas; mild citrus notes. White wine and pepper flavors; green apple. Heavy, flat mouthfeel.

This beer is a bust. There is no lasting head, the wheat character is missing in action, the taste is rather harsh for a weizen-styled beer, and the body, with the lack of lasting carbonation just sits there. The Mandarina Bavarian hops seems to be the only aspect of the beer that comes through as advertised, but that is not enough to recommend this beer.

The head is particularly small for a wheat beer. A couple of spots for lace. Very cloudy, naturally. Dirty gold color.

Clove and banana are the first smells I get. Solid yeast presence.

The taste is a bit more biting than the smell suggests. The yeast is more dominant. The wheat flavor is strong as well. It's more bitter than most hefeweizens. The body is also richer than most hefes. Short aftertaste of yeast, wheat and bittering hops.

Golden yellow color with zero head

Aroma of peach pit, apricot, and wheat. Faint clove.

Lots of woody hop out front, and spice. Not much else.

Feel is carbonated and semi dry.

Overall this drinks like a dry hopped Saison than anything. Very woody. As a hefeweizen it fails.

fun beer, cool series, you dont see a lot of dry hopped weissbier types, this is pretty good. nice to see ballast point making new recipes and not just adding stuff to existing ones, which has been the standard for a little while now. this starts light as hefe types go, yellow and hazy in color, but not real thick or anything, fluffy pure white head rises above the rim of the pint glass. aroma of somewhat lesss banana driven yeast, still classic, but mild, maybe fermented a little cooler, kind of crisp too, which makes sense. the hops are great, lemony and bright, but acidic or oily, but fresh and pungent in the nose, neat with all the fresh fluffy wheat in here and the yeast, new and old schools collide. the flavor is nice too, the hops are a little restrained, all in balance with the other elements in a beer that on the whole is very light and very drinkable and not overly flavored. grass and lemon and banana and slightly soapy wheat and yeast, its smooth and soft in feel, well enough carbonated, and very interesting for what it is. i think they could ratchet up the dry hop a little more to make this even more distinct, but its a tasty beer as it is, nice for the sunny warm days we are still having here. worth a try for sure!

Clear pale yellow with a sketchy bit of foam. Interesting aroma of flowery hops. Thin and a little harsh. Not much sense of carbonation to soften the bold bitter hops. The hop flavor is pretty powerful, and excludes any German esters that might be around. It tastes more like an American Pale Wheat stoned on hops. Quite a bitter aftertaste. Murky overall with a sourish edge. Maybe the hop fanatic will find this fascinating.
